Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson have both starred in multiple films within two popular franchises: Zombieland and Now You See Me. Interestingly, the director of the Zombieland movies, Ruben Fleischer, also directed the third Now You See Me film, titled Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, bringing the two actors back together. With the Now You See Me team potentially reuniting, fans are curious if a third Zombieland movie is in the works. However, Eisenberg suggests a new Now You See Me film is more likely to happen.
I was reading an interview with Jesse Eisenberg over at ComicBook, and he was talking about Zombieland 3. He said he’d totally be up for doing another one! He pointed out that it’s been about ten years since the last Zombieland movie, and only three years before that. He seems to think we’ll probably see more Now You See Me films before another Zombieland, but he’s definitely interested in revisiting it eventually.
Could Zombieland 3 Ever Happen?
Jesse Eisenberg’s recent comments might disappoint fans of Zombieland, but his feelings are understandable. While Zombieland took years to get a sequel made, Lionsgate quickly moved forward with a follow-up to Now You See Me. Now You See Me is a concept that naturally works well as a franchise – each film centers around a new, elaborate heist performed by the Horsemen.
Eisenberg’s predictions about the future of these two movie series might be accurate. Lionsgate recently announced they’re working on a fourth Now You See Me film, with director F. Gary Fleischer returning. However, that depends on how well the new movie, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, performs with audiences and critics. If it doesn’t do well, Lionsgate might decide to cancel future installments. They currently seem optimistic, though. Meanwhile, Sony isn’t actively developing Zombieland 3, suggesting it’s not a high priority for them right now.
Director Ruben Fleischer seems hesitant about making a third Zombieland movie. While he liked the idea Emma Stone once had – reuniting the cast every ten years for a new film – he questioned whether they could keep the series fresh and avoid repeating themselves. The second movie, Zombieland: Double Tap, made more money than the first, but received less positive reviews, hinting that audiences might be losing interest. If Zombieland 3 happens, it will need a really compelling concept to justify itself.
The idea of a zombie apocalypse is always full of potential, and it’s especially exciting when it involves characters we already love, like those in Zombieland. Releasing a new movie only once every ten years might actually be a smart move. It would give the filmmakers time to develop the story and characters further, showing how they’ve changed and adapted as time passes and presenting them with new, unique problems. While Now You See Me seems to have a promising future, let’s hope Hollywood remembers Zombieland too.
