Jesse Williams Details Bond With “Brother” Eric Dane at Emmys 2025

If you love someone, say it loud and go from there.

Jesse Williams often speaks fondly of his close friendship with Eric Dane, his *Grey’s Anatomy* costar who played Mark Sloan (known as McSteamy). Their connection went far beyond just acting together on the show.

Jesse Williams, known for his role as Jackson Avery, shared on the Emmys red carpet with Heather McMahan during *Live From TopMob: 2025 Emmys* that he felt the show had a wonderful run. He fondly spoke about his colleagues, calling them ‘the plastics posse’ and expressing his deep connection with one in particular, saying, ‘That’s my brother, on and off screen.’

Jesse and Eric were planning to reunite at the award show on September 14th. They were scheduled to appear in a segment celebrating Shonda Rhimes’ 20 years in television, and then present the award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.

In the end, Jesse attended the award show alone, as Eric didn’t make it. No explanation was given for Eric’s absence, which follows his public announcement five months ago that he has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Since then, Eric-father to 15-year-old Billie Beatrice and 13-year-old Georgia Geraldine with Rebecca Gayheart-has openly discussed his wish to continue working as long as he’s able.

Eric shared with TopMob News in June, while with his *Countdown* co-star Jensen Ackles, that he plans to continue working on the show for as long as possible. He explained that it’s a great way to stay motivated and keep his career progressing, which is particularly important to him right now.

Although Eric, 52, recently shared some of the difficult side effects he’s been dealing with regarding his health, he also explained how working helps him cope and feel better.

He said he generally enjoys his job. While things haven’t always been easy, he feels positive overall. He believes maintaining a good attitude is the most important thing.

Although Eric and Jesse weren’t together on screen, the 2025 Emmys still celebrated *Gilmore Girls* and *Law & Order*. Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham reunited to honor *Gilmore Girls*, and Ice-T, S. Epatha Merkerson, Mariska Hargitay, Christopher Meloni, and Tony Goldwyn came together to celebrate *Law & Order*.

Pedro Pascal, from *The Last of Us*, and Sam Rockwell, of *The White Lotus*, who are both nominated and real-life friends, seemed genuinely surprised to have reached this point in their careers.

Even though Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel compete with their late-night shows, they’ve come together, along with their wives, Evelyn McGee-Colbert and Molly McNearny, to support a common cause.

Stephen Colbert recently won his first Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series for *The Late Show*, which he’s hosted on CBS since 2015. This brings his total Emmy wins to 11. He previously earned three Emmys for his writing work on *The Daily Show*, four for writing and hosting *The Colbert Report*, and two for Outstanding Variety Series. He also won an Emmy for a live variety special covering the 2020 election, titled *Stephen Colbert’s Election Night 2020: Democracy’s Last Stand: Building Back America Great Again Better 2020*.

Hobbled by a torn Achilles but strong in spirit, Sterling K. Brown posed for a pic with Tina Fey.

Everyone saw *Last Week Tonight With John Oliver* win the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series again – it was the show’s 32nd Emmy win in total – but you might have missed what John Oliver said during the acceptance speech.

John Oliver playfully expressed his surprise at Nate Bargatze’s large donation, saying, “That is a lot of money for you!” He then jokingly added that he’d contribute to the swear jar as well, all in support of Bargatze’s pledge to the Boys & Girls Club of America, which required keeping remarks brief.

As a lifestyle expert, I have to say, Britt Lower’s acceptance speech at the awards was *brilliant*! Winning for her role in *Severance*, she playfully hinted at the show’s complex plot by writing ‘LET ME OUT’ on the back of her card. It was such a clever nod to all the mysteries fans are still trying to unravel – a truly memorable moment!

Comedy powerhouses Seth Rogen, winning his first Emmy for *The Studio*, and Jean Smart, a seven-time Emmy winner from *Hacks*, are taking home the awards!

Sheryl Lee Ralph of *Abbot Elementary* considers her husband, Vincent Hughes, her lifelong date, meaning he’s not just her spouse, but her constant companion.

The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood and boyfriend Adam Long looked like the least tragic of couples.

Jake Gyllenhaal made a rare award show appearance with girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu.

While we’re not investigators or making a show about it, everything we’ve seen suggests Selena Gomez and her fiancé, Benny Blanco, are very happy together.

The actress, known for her roles in *Euphoria* and *The White Lotus*, kept warm with a vibrant red shawl from Oscar de la Renta throughout the awards show.

With several cast members leaving before season 51, Bowen Yang spoke with Colin Jost and his wife, Scarlett Johansson, who is often a guest on Saturday Night Live.

Harrison Ford, nominated for an Emmy for the first time for his role in *Shrinking*, attended the awards show with his wife, Calista Flockhart.

Michelle Williams and her husband, director Thomas Kail, recently welcomed their third child via surrogate and are likely exhausted, but they still looked incredibly stylish at an event.
