Jessica Jones’ Daredevil Spinoff Rumors Won’t Stop, And There’s One O.G. Detail I Really Hope Gets Retconned

It’s rare to find superhero stories featuring legally trained characters who are also visually impaired. Even so, I’m incredibly excited about the return of Daredevil: Born Again with its second season. Nothing else quite compares! A big part of that excitement comes from Krysten Ritter’s fantastic portrayal of Jessica Jones, and I’m eager to see what happens with her character in the upcoming season, and what the future holds.

After Krysten Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones was announced, fans began hoping Disney and Marvel would revive the show with another season. Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum suggested this was a possibility, and since then, rumors have circulated about the show’s potential continuation. Now, DanielRPK, a source known for reporting leaks, is claiming that a new standalone Jessica Jones series is currently being developed.

Even though the recent report didn’t reveal anything we didn’t already know, it’s reassuring to hear confirmation that the project is still moving forward in the new year. It’s always a relief when leadership returns from break with the same priorities, rather than completely changing direction. With that in mind, I’m sharing some of my hopes for the project – maybe a talented writer will read this and consider them!

Kilgrave’s Death Should Absolutely Be Retconned If Jessica Jones’ MCU Show Happens

Originally, Daredevil: Born Again was planned as a fresh start for the character. However, the show underwent major creative changes during its first season, led by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Hopefully, the team will learn from that experience as they develop a potential Jessica Jones spinoff and decide how to incorporate the three seasons she previously had on Netflix.

The show Daredevil: Born Again highlighted memorable characters like Foggy (though the character is now deceased) and Karen Page. Meanwhile, other established parts of the Daredevil universe, such as Stick, Elektra, and The Hand, haven’t been mentioned much. It’s likely the same will be true for Jessica Jones’ character. However, considering Season 1 of Jessica Jones was far superior to the later seasons, bringing back David Tennant as Kilgrave would be a clever and worthwhile move.

Disney+ offers a streaming library full of Marvel, Star Wars, and other popular content. You can start a subscription for as low as $11.99 per month with ads. For an ad-free experience, it’s $18.99 monthly, or you can save 16% by paying $189.99 for a full year. Check out the deal here!

I’m not completely sure if my own thoughts are truly mine, considering the Purple Man’s ability to control minds, but these feelings feel genuine. David Tennant’s portrayal of Kilgrave is still one of my favorite live-action Marvel villain performances, and many others agree. While his powers of persuasion and disturbing behavior made him a very dark character, I understand why some fans might not want to see those parts again. They can easily skip over those scenes if they wish.

Bringing Kilgrave back would be tricky, especially since Jessica Jones killed him in Season 1 by breaking his neck – and she was later cleared of wrongdoing with a claim that he was controlling her at the time. One possibility is that everyone experienced a shared hallucination, and his powers were so strong they caused Jessica to have flashbacks of him in later seasons. Or, perhaps he simply escaped and has been living in hiding all along.

For Kilgrave to reappear, the Jessica Jones spinoff needs to be officially greenlit. That means Marvel needs to see enough demand for the show – and for Krysten Ritter to reprise her role – to justify another season. It would also be interesting to see how Jessica reacts to learning that Matt Murdock is still alive, especially since she thought he died at the end of Season 3.

You can now watch all three seasons of Jessica Jones and the first season of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. Plus, Daredevil will be back for a second season on March 4, 2026.
