Jessica Jones’ Return Means the MCU Can Bring Back a Forgotten Villain

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is bringing back its gritty, street-level heroes. For a long time, fans wondered if the shows from Netflix – like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and others known as the Defenders – would officially be part of the larger Marvel story, especially after Disney took control of Marvel Television. While characters like Daredevil and Wilson Fisk appeared in projects like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Echo, the Daredevil: Born Again series officially confirmed that those earlier stories are canon. Now, the second season of Daredevil: Born Again will bring Jessica Jones back into the mix, reuniting the hard-boiled detective with the MCU.

Now that Jessica Jones is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the team working on the new Daredevil: Born Again series will need to deal with the difficult consequences of her past actions. Although Krysten Ritter is currently the only confirmed main cast member returning from the original Jessica Jones show, her involvement opens the door for popular supporting characters like Malcolm Ducasse to reappear. This is also a great chance for Marvel Studios to finally reveal what happened to Trish Walker.

Where Is Trish Walker in the MCU?

Over three seasons, Trish became increasingly obsessed with matching her sister’s powers, pushing her to undergo risky experiments to gain enhanced reflexes and strength. Though she started as a hopeful hero known as Hellcat, the violent death of her mother deeply affected her. This loss turned Trish into someone focused on punishment and revenge, ultimately leading her to kill Gregory Salinger. While Jessica Jones wrestled with the responsibility of her abilities, Trish readily used hers for vengeance, a path that eventually led Jessica to stop her and turn her in to the authorities.

The last scene of the original Jessica Jones series showed Trish being arrested and taken to the Raft, a high-security underwater prison for superpowered criminals. It seemed like a permanent, sad ending for her, suggesting she’d become the kind of threat she always fought against. But the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been rethinking how it handles superpowered individuals and government control. With the Sokovia Accords now canceled and the Raft reappearing in Captain America: Brave New World, it’s now much more likely that Trish could be released from prison.

Can Hellcat Be One of Damage Control’s Assets?

The end of the Wonder Man series has significantly changed how we should see the Department of Damage Control (DODC) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’re no longer just a team that cleans up after superhero battles. Instead, they’re evolving into major villains. The Wonder Man finale showed that the DODC has spent billions building a high-security facility for people with powers, and this will be explored further in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. What’s especially important is that Agent Cleary and his team aren’t just trying to stop enhanced individuals anymore. They’re actively searching for superpowered people they can use for their own purposes, as demonstrated by their interest in Simon Williams.

The current situation within the Department of Damage Control sets up a natural way for Trish to reappear in the story. Since Damage Control is looking to staff its new facility with powered individuals they can control, a former vigilante like Trish – who has already shown she’s willing to bend the rules to do what she believes is right – would be a strong recruit. They could offer her a chance to earn redemption or a lighter sentence if she works for them as an official operative, similar to the concept of teams like the Suicide Squad hinted at in the Wonder Man finale. This would create conflict with Jessica Jones, who would likely see her sister working with a questionable government agency as further proof of her moral failings. By building on the groundwork laid in Wonder Man, Marvel Studios can turn Trish from a sidelined prisoner into a significant and complicated adversary, challenging Jessica’s strength and her dedication to her family.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on March 24, 2026.

As a big Jessica Jones fan, I’ve been wondering – what do you all think about Trish Walker? Should she come back as someone who helps Jessica, or as a villain causing trouble? I’d love to hear your opinions! Let’s discuss it over at the ComicBook Forum – come join the conversation!
