Jessica Simpson Reacts to Rumor She’s Spent $1,000 a Week on Tanning

Jessica Simpson just made the details of her tanning routine a public affair. 

Okay, so I’ve been following Jessica Simpson for years, and there’s always been this crazy rumor going around that she used to spend a thousand dollars every week on keeping her tan! But she finally set the record straight – it’s just not true! I’m so relieved, honestly. It’s amazing to finally hear it from her!

“A thousand dollars? Wow, I’d honestly rather have relaxed in the sun,” Jessica said in an interview with Elle on April 2nd. “It might depend on whether that amount is supposed to include a vacation, too.”

She confessed that playing Daisy Duke in the 2005 film The Dukes of Hazzard meant she had to be very careful about getting a tan.

She remembered needing to appear tanned for the four-month-long shoot, where she was often nearly nude. To feel confident during filming, she relied on spray tans and body makeup, but she was careful to avoid an overly orange look, so she first got a light tan as a base. It was all carefully planned.

I used to obsess over sunscreen, carefully choosing different SPFs for different body parts. I’d use SPF 15 on my stomach, but SPF 50 on my knees, always trying to prevent wrinkles – I was constantly calculating the best protection for each area.

These days, Jessica is just as serious about sunscreen as she was about tanning in the early 2000s.

For me, a perfect vacation is all about getting a healthy, sun-kissed tan. I’m definitely the type who loves to relax with friends. We used to constantly be turning each other to get even coverage – I always joke we looked like rotisserie chickens! Now, we’ve gotten a little more sophisticated and take turns applying sunscreen for each other, which is much better.

Jessica says her 12-year-old son, Ace, is still reluctant to use suncare, just like she used to be. However, her daughters, 14-year-old Maxwell and 7-year-old Birdie, are generally good about protecting their skin. Maxwell, her teenage daughter, has even become interested in skincare and now shares new routines with Jessica.
