Jessica Simpson’s boots were always made to walk in the South.
She’s found success with her music since moving to Tennessee. More than two years ago, the singer and her ex-husband, Eric Johnson, along with their three children – Drew, 13, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 6 – left Los Angeles for Nashville, and she says the change of scenery has opened up exciting new opportunities in her career.
During her concert in Connecticut on December 7th, Jessica shared how much she loves Nashville. She explained that the city helped her reconnect with herself during a difficult period, and she had to trust her instincts and follow what felt right. She realized she’d spent her entire music career trying to fulfill the expectation of being a pop star, and she had genuinely tried to do that.
She explained that many people feel inadequate when they’re young, and that it’s perfectly normal to feel that way.
Let me tell you, creative shifts can be tough. I’ve seen it happen to so many artists, and Jessica was no exception. After releasing her first country album, Do You Know, back in 2008, she unfortunately found herself dropped by her label, Sony Nashville. She’s actually shared recently how devastating that was – she lost her passion for music for a while! But the good news is, she’s back! After taking some time away, she just released a two-part EP called Nashville Canyon this year, and it’s fantastic to see her making music again.
Now that she’s recovered from a difficult time in her career, she’s excited to rediscover her passion for music.
She believes everyone deserves self-compassion, but admits she often tells herself her goals are more important than immediate challenges. After not singing for fifteen years, she felt like she’d been subtly preparing for a comeback, and ultimately, she’s taken back what she considers rightfully hers – her place as a leading artist.

Jessica is prioritizing both her passion for music and a positive co-parenting relationship with her ex-husband, Eric. They separated in January after a decade of marriage and are now figuring out how to handle the holidays together. She recently shared her thoughts on choosing to spend Thanksgiving with Eric.
“It’s my kids’ father,” Jessica said in an interview published by TMZ Nov. 28. “Family first.”
After all, she’ll always prioritize her kids’ connection to their dad.
She explained that children inherit traits from both parents, so it’s vital to always speak respectfully around them. This helps them develop a healthy perspective and, most importantly, they need unconditional love.
