Jill Duggar is remembering her late daughter.
As a faithful follower, I penned a heartfelt homage to sweet Isla Marie Dillard, who we lost in the womb during my fourth month of pregnancy in April 2024, on the day that marked her very first birthday.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself reflecting on this August, a month that typically bursts with joyous occasions. However, as I pen this down, I’m reminded that it was supposed to be a special time for us – a celebration of my daughter’s first birthday, filled with a smash cake, balloons, and all things pink. But life, as we know it, has taken an unexpected turn.
Jill went on to say, “However, we swapped out her pink grave blossoms for fresh ones instead, then we strolled around the cemetery with the boys, reflecting on how she would be running alongside her big brothers and receiving both love and teasing from them (smiling emoji).
In the slideshow she shared, it was evident that Jill was accompanied at the cemetery by her husband Derick Dillard, as well as their sons Frederick (aged 3), Samuel (aged 8), and Israel (aged 10).
She expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the chance we had to nurture our lovely daughter for just four brief months, and she included some valuable resources for assistance in her post’s description below, in memory of Isla Marie.
In her post’s heading, the former star of ‘Counting On’ expressed that she and Derick are yet to receive an explanation for the loss of their daughter Isla, and subsequently provided resources and facts for individuals facing the heartbreak of infant loss.
She noted that while they couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason for the loss, extensive tests led them to believe that it might have been due to an undetected subchorionic hematoma or hemorrhage that occurred at an early stage. In all likelihood, earlier detection would not have altered the outcome.
Previously, Jill paid tribute to her deceased daughter on the anniversary of when they learned she had passed away.
A year ago today, she posted on Instagram about preparing for the birth of our daughter, as we had learned only a few days prior that she had passed away. My mother-in-law was caring for our sons, while my mom took us to the hospital. A couple of my sisters and a friend were also with us during this time.
She also expressed her gratitude to those unseen individuals who embraced and prayed for them, and continue to be a source of support as we navigate a journey that no one desires.

Originally, a couple who first fell in love as teenagers in high school, later became the parents of 19 children and grandparents to more than three dozen young ones.
Michelle remembers being rescued at the age of 15. One evening, Jim Bob was conducting house visits for his Baptist church, and he found himself knocking on the Ruark family’s door after hearing from a friend that “a girl from school who had recently converted to their faith and was a cheerleader” lived there.
They extended an invitation to Michelle to attend Sunday school at their church, and Jim Bob shared that he petitioned God for them to guide each other spiritually, although it seemed Michelle didn’t find their initial encounter particularly noteworthy. A year on, she applied for work at the frozen yogurt store owned by Jim Bob’s parents. As Michelle penned in a 2017 blog post for Jim Bob’s birthday and their 33rd wedding anniversary, “You stood behind the counter near the cash register when we first met, and you introduced yourself to me. You were timid but amiable! I don’t recall much from that conversation, except that you eventually gathered the nerve to ask me if I would accompany you to your junior-senior banquet!
At Shiloh Christian, they shared a dinner together, but it was the lengthy conversation about the Bible at her family home afterward that solidified their bond for Michelle. In May of 1984, we graduated from high school, and by July, we were married, with Michelle being 17 years old and Jim Bob being 19 years old.
The couple dedicated themselves to God and each other for the long run.
Jim Bob previously served as a state legislator, representing Arkansas’s sixth district in the House of Representatives from 1999 until 2002. During his tenure, he held the position of vice chair in the House of Corrections and Criminal Law Subcommittee. He made an unsuccessful attempt to secure a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2002, as well as another failed bid for the Republican nomination for Arkansas State Senate District 35 in 2006.
He and Michelle, both licensed realtors, are actively involved in conservative movements, a part of their lifestyle that makes them avid supporters and vocal critics of the reality TV show “19 Kids and Counting,” which debuted as “17 Kids and Counting” in 2008.
As of October 2024, they were grandparents of 33 with three on the way.
As a seasoned lifestyle advisor, I’d like to share a bit about Joshua Duggar, the eldest in the renowned Duggar family, who entered the world on the 3rd of March, 1988. Similar to many advocates for social change, he also found his calling in conservatism, channeling his efforts towards promoting the principles of the Family Research Council.
2015 saw the unearthing of old police records implicating me in allegations of molestation towards several girls, among them my sisters Jessa Duggar and Jill Duggar. In a candid interview with Fox News that June, Jessa stood by her brother, asserting vehemently that the slanderous labels being hurled at Josh were “not only overblown but outright falsehoods.” She even faced criticism for expressing this view, as she was one of the victims herself.
His long-term partner, Anna Duggar, who exchanged vows with him during a wedding ceremony broadcasted on ’19 Kids and Counting’ back in September 26, 2008, remained by his side even following his confession of infidelity.
Back in 2016, when I checked myself into that treatment center, my folks dubbed it a pivotal initial move towards recovery and healing – a decisive step in the right direction for me.
The parents of Mackynzie (born October 8, 2009), Michael (born June 15, 2011), Marcus (born June 2, 2013), and two additional children – Meredith (born July 16, 2015) and Mason Garett (born September 12, 2017) – had their seventh child, Madyson Lily, on October 23, 2021. This birth occurred shortly after TLC canceled the show “19 Kids.” Maryella Hope, another daughter, was welcomed into the family on November 27, 2019.
Back in April 2021, charges were brought against Josh for two separate offenses related to child pornography: receiving and possessing such material. On both counts, he denied guilt. The following year, in 2022, he was found guilty of both charges. However, the possession charge was subsequently dropped by the judge. As a result, he received a sentence of 12 and a half years behind bars.
Following Josh’s birth, Michelle fell pregnant once more, however, she experienced a miscarriage. In the midst of mourning this loss and seeking guidance in prayer, it was revealed that twins were expected.
She expressed that it felt like a special gift twice over, she explained to Love to Know. God was offering comfort to their hearts, she added. Despite being in a learning process, they found themselves in an extraordinary situation – breastfeeding one baby while carrying another, only eight months apart. It’s just one more unexpected event that the Lord has orchestrated for them.
John David Duggar and his twin sister Jana Duggar were born on Jan. 12, 1990.
Following a lengthy period of mutual acquaintance (they had been acquainted for several years before their meeting at a church gathering in Oklahoma, where Abbie resides) and a quick engagement, John David and Abbie-Grace Burnett tied the knot on November 3, 2018.
On January 7, 2020, they brought a daughter named Grace Annette Duggar into the world, and Charlie Duggar joined the family in September 2022.
On their 30th birthday in January 2020, Jan wrote a heartfelt message: “John and I were often asked if we had that ‘twin sensation’. You know, the connection where you sense what the other is feeling or perceive what they’re thinking…Well, John, for a long time I’ve denied it-but when little Gracie was born, I felt every ounce of joy that you did. So perhaps there is some truth to it!
As an overly enthusiastic admirer, I couldn’t help but gush as I watched you and Abbie parenting! It’s clear you were born for this role. The very qualities that make you an exceptional brother are the same ones that will undoubtedly make you a phenomenal father.
Jana waited as eleven out of her total eighteen siblings got married before she herself found love with Stephen Wissmann – whose sister Hannah is married to Jeremiah, one of Jana’s own brothers. Although she admittedly felt some frustration at times, she firmly believed that it was all according to God’s plan.
In simpler terms, “Jana explained to People magazine that she hasn’t always been clear about the larger plan, but she believes God knows what’s best for everyone. For her personally, she’s choosing to get married later on, August 15, 2024. She expressed that every person’s life story unfolds uniquely, and if they were all identical, life would be monotonous.
Just over a year later, the couple shared that they’re expecting their first baby.
Born on May 17, 1991, Jill Dillard (formerly known as Jill Duggar) found her own love story echoing her parents’ one, as she crossed paths with Derick, who lived approximately 45 minutes away. Their first encounter took place during Christmas 2011, when he dropped by the Duggar family home while caroling with his church group.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it like this:
I, as a matchmaker, facilitated a connection between Jill and Derick that blossomed over countless emails and video chats. Intrigued by each other, they decided to meet in person that November in Nepal. Their bond deepened further, leading them to fall even more in love.
In the frosty month of February 2014, Derick humbly sought my blessing for Jill’s hand in marriage, and our union was formalized on June 21, 2014. Our beautiful journey as a couple has been graced with three amazing sons – Israel, born April 6, 2015, Samuel, born July 8, 2017, and the latest addition, Frederick, who joined our family on July 7, 2022.
In the month of April, 2024, Jill announced that she had experienced a miscarriage during her pregnancy with Derick, their anticipated first daughter.
In June 2023, when the Amazon Prime Video documentary titled “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets” was released, Jill and Derick took time to consider the disputes and faith-based convictions concerning Jill’s family that were featured in the program.
Jim Bob and Michelle’s fifth child, Jessa Duggar, was born Nov. 4, 1992.
Jessa encountered Ben at church in 2013, and he started pursuing her in a traditional manner, which was quite novel for many viewers who were accustomed to modern dating practices. The couple preferred to keep their romantic affairs private before their engagement, so Jim Bob clarified to People that courting involved getting to know each other in a group setting, with both families spending time together and the couple establishing shared goals to assess whether they were suitable for marriage. Unlike traditional dating, where couples often spend time alone, which may lead to more physical intimacy, courting is intended to minimize such situations.
In August 2014, Ben asked Jessa for her hand in marriage, and they exchanged vows on November 1st of the same year, marking their first physical connection as a married couple. Prior to this, when they were expecting their first child, their reality show, “19 Kids and Counting,” was canceled due to accusations of sexual abuse involving Jessa and her sister Jill. In an effort to address the issue, TLC aired a special program featuring Jill and Jessa. That winter, Jill and Jessa moved on to star in their own show titled “Jill and Jessa: Counting On.” Later, the show expanded to include other Duggar siblings, known as “Counting On.
During November 5, 2015, Jessa and Ben became parents to their son Spurgeon. After that, they welcomed son Henry on February 6, 2017, daughter Ivy Jane on May 28, 2019, and daughter Fern in July 2021. In the holiday season of 2022, Jessa experienced a miscarriage, which she disclosed in February 2023. However, she gave birth to their son George in December 2023.
In August 2025, Jessa announced the birth of son Edward.
The sixth Duggar child, Jinger Vuolo, was born Dec. 21, 1993.
Jinger and Jeremy first crossed paths while working on ministry projects in Laredo, Texas, in the year 2016. Their relationship blossomed into a courtship around that time. On November 5th, 2016, they got married, which also happened to be the birthday of Jinger’s nephew Spurgeon – quite the coincidence given her extensive family! Soon after their wedding, whispers about potential pregnancies started circulating.
In a year from now, we expect to have established ourselves, continuing our ministry right here in Laredo. Our aim is simply to serve the Lord in whatever capacity we can. This was shared by Jinger on a June 2017 episode of Counting On.
On July 19, 2018, their child named Felicity was born. Back in May of that same year, they announced that Jinger was expecting again, and unfortunately, she had experienced a miscarriage the previous autumn. In November 2020, another daughter, Evangeline Jo, joined their family.
Son Finnegan Charles was born March 29, 2025.
Born on January 20, 1995, Joseph Duggar found the perfect moment for romance at his sister Joy-Anna’s wedding in May 2017, where he proposed to Kendra after only a few months of dating, having met through their shared church.
Joseph shared with People that he was certainly anxious leading up to it, yet he wasn’t worried she would decline because she had expressed, “I’m simply waiting for you!” After proposing, Joseph stated, “I’m overjoyed and utterly surprised. There are so many things I want to express, but all I can say is shocked.” Kendra added.
Since then, they’ve declared the arrivals of son Garrett (born in June 2018), daughter Addison (born in November 2019), and most recently, another daughter named Brooklyn (born in February 2021).
Eighth in line, Josiah Duggar was born on Aug. 28, 1996.
A few short months after making their relationship public, they revealed their engagement news in March 2018. As he stated, the location of his proposal to Lauren was the very same spot where her parents became engaged. With a rich family history tied to this property, it holds significant meaning and sentiment for Lauren.
In a video shared on their family blog, Michelle (who will be Lauren’s mother-in-law) expressed her affection for Lauren, saying, “Lauren is such a cherished young lady that we truly adore.” Jessa and Ben joined in to congratulate the couple, and even presented them with chocolate shaped like crosses and circles as a gift. Michelle then playfully suggested, “I’m guessing you two want to save your first kiss for your wedding day, but if you visit us, we have a sweet treat waiting!” She gestured towards the enticing prize she was holding up.
As an ardent admirer looking back, my brief flirtation with the radiant Marjorie Jackson in the sweltering summer of 2015 didn’t quite pan out as hoped. Fast forward to March 2016, I reminisced with People about our shared moments, where we were merely attempting to walk hand-in-hand with God’s guidance. Regrettably, Marjorie perceived that the timing wasn’t favorable then, so we momentarily parted ways, holding on to a glimmer of hope for future encounters.
I am delighted to share that on the 30th of June, 2018, I exchanged vows with my lovely wife, Lauren, in an absolutely perfect wedding ceremony. Our journey continued on November 8, 2019, when we were blessed with our firstborn, Bella Milagro – a name that beautifully encapsulates the miracle of her arrival. You see, just a year prior, we had experienced a difficult time when Lauren suffered a miscarriage in October 2018.
Fast forward to 2022, and our family grew even more with the addition of Daisy. Lastly, in May 2023, we were overjoyed to welcome another precious member, Ezra, into our loving household. The joy they bring us is immeasurable, and we are grateful for every moment we get to spend together as a family.
Ninth sibling Joy-Anna Duggar was born Oct. 28, 1997.
She had been friends with Austin Forsyth for fifteen years before he began courting her. After this, they moved swiftly, as he proposed in February 2017 and they tied the knot on May 26, 2017, at Cross Church in Rogers, Arkansas – the same church where Joseph had proposed to Kendra.
Joy-Anna and Austin had a baby boy named Gideon Martin Forsyth on February 23, 2018, followed by the arrival of their daughter Evelyn Mae Forsyth on August 21, 2020, and then another son, Gunner James Forsyth, on May 17, 2023.
On December 30, 1998, Jim Bob and Michelle welcomed their second pair of twins, Jed and Jeremiah, into the world.
Jed got married to Katey Nakatsu a year later, in April 2021, following a year of courtship. They welcomed their son Truett into the world in May 2022, and their daughter Nora Kate joined the family in June 2023.
In July of 2024, Jed and Katey shared happy news that they were expecting twins, and on January 8, 2025, their beautiful daughters Elsie Kate and Emma Kate entered the world.
Jeremiah, who is a licensed flight instructor, is married to Hannah Wissmann (the sister of Jana’s husband Stephen). Together, they are the proud parents of daughter Brynley, born in December 2022, and Brielle, born in February 2024.
They announced the arrival of their third daughter, Emery ‘Emy’ Jane Duggar, on May 18, 2025.
No. 12 Jason Duggar was born on April 21, 2000.
In January 2017, as reported by the Daily Mail, Jim Bob aided Jase in purchasing a $33,000 property in need of repairs in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, approximately 30 minutes from the Duggar family’s main residence. Over time, he established his own construction company.
In May 2024, he made it public on Instagram that Maddie Grace was his girlfriend, and they got married the very next October.
Charmed No. 13, James Duggar was born July 7, 2001.
He doesn’t have a public romantic relationship yet, but he lovingly takes care of numerous nieces and nephews as an affectionate uncle.
On my 19th birthday in 2019, my mom Michelle penned down something that truly encapsulates who I am – “He’s not just my fun uncle, he’s my funcle extraordinaire, and all the young lads around here admire him and aspire to mirror his brilliance!”
I’ve always been a bit of a whiz, tinkering with gadgets since I was a kid. You name it; I’d take apart everything from our old radio to the family vacuum cleaner. And then, like magic, I’d make them work better than before – with a dash of my unique touch!
This year, James dedicated a great deal of effort to acquiring his Commercial Driver’s License, and now he’s extraordinarily skilled not just in handling large trucks, but also heavy machinery! We’re eagerly anticipating the exciting things that lie ahead for him as destined by fate.
No. 14 Justin Duggar arrived on Nov. 15, 2002.
In September 2020, he made his relationship with Claire Spivey known to the public. They became engaged in November of the same year, and they tied the knot on February 26, 2021.
Born on May 23, 2004, Jackson Duggar – the 15th child of Jim Bob and Michelle – came into the world with his big sister Jill by his side.
On Jackson’s 16th birthday, Michelle, his mom, commended his humor and mentioned that she was well aware of his eagerness to obtain a driver’s license.
In this paraphrased sentence, I tried to make the language more natural and easier to read while maintaining the original meaning. Instead of using the phrase “can’t wait“, which can sometimes sound informal, I opted for “was well aware of his eagerness”.
Johannah Duggar made her appearance on October 11, 2005, which led to the original family reality show titled “16 Kids and Starting a New Life“.
On her 15th birthday in 2020, Michelle expressed that this girl is full of life and enjoys socializing, and she takes pleasure in forming new friendships. Her younger sisters are smitten with her, seeing her as a celestial figure, and Michelle feels immensely blessed to be her mother.
Jennifer Duggar arrived on Aug. 2, 2007, then the baby of the family.
Their TLC show that premiered Sept. 29, 2008, was christened 17 Kids and Counting.
Now, OMG, she’s a teenager.
Michelle expressed, on her daughter’s 13th birthday, that Jennifer is reliable, devoted, and full of joy! Her nieces and nephews adore her, often clinging to her because they don’t want her to let go. Jennifer also cherishes animals deeply and is diligent about caring for her pets daily. Not too long ago, she even assisted in raising a brood of 7 tiny bunnies!
Here on the right, the penultimate Duggar child was born Dec. 18, 2008.
Back in 2019, my dear ones would describe me as an effervescent individual who seems to effortlessly form connections with everyone I meet. My laughter, they’d say, is often one of the highlights of our shared moments, shining brightly even on the dullest days.
Josie Duggar, holding her niece Meredith, was born on December 10, 2009, three months early with a weight of just 1 pound and 6 ounces. Due to her premature birth, she spent six months receiving specialized care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
On her baby’s 11th birthday in 2020, Michelle wrote that Josie is full of vigor. From the moment she gets up in the morning to when she finally goes to sleep at night, she seldom takes a break!
