The 1960s were full of iconic cartoon franchises, including classics like *Speed Racer*, *Yogi Bear*, *Popeye*, *The Pink Panther*, *The Flintstones*, and *Scooby-Doo*. Many of these have since been made into live-action movies, but one popular series has remained untouched – until now. Recent reports suggest a live-action version is in the works, and the incredibly talented Jim Carrey is set to star!
I’m so excited to hear the news! Apparently, Jim Carrey – you probably know him from *The Mask* and *Sonic the Hedgehog* – is being considered to star in a live-action *The Jetsons* movie! But that’s not all – Colin Trevorrow, who directed *Jurassic World: Dominion*, is in talks to direct, and he’s also going to co-write the script with Joe Epstein. This could be amazing!
The Jetsons Could Finally Make the Jump to Live-Action
It’s surprising that no one has ever made a live-action version of *The Jetsons*, considering how perfectly suited the show is for it. Originally airing in 1962, *The Jetsons* imagined the daily lives of the Jetson family in the futuristic year 2062.
Viewers quickly met the Jetson family – George, Jane, their children Judy and Elroy, their robot maid Rosie, and their lovable dog Astro – as they experienced fun adventures in Orbit City. The show originally ran for 24 episodes and was later brought back in the 1980s for an additional 51 episodes, filled with more of the family’s comical mishaps.
This isn’t the first time *The Jetsons* have appeared in a feature film. Back in 1990, *Jetsons: The Movie* was released. The story follows the family moving far out into space, but they quickly start to miss home, and George’s new job isn’t ideal. The film earned $20 million in theaters during its three-week run.
Both *The Jetsons* and *The Flintstones* were popular at the same time, and *The Flintstones* has been successfully rebooted several times, even with live-action movies – it’s had two! *The Jetsons*, however, hasn’t had any live-action adaptations until now. With Trevorrow and Carrey involved, a live-action *Jetsons* project is finally in the works, and it’s long overdue.
Okay, so the buzz is that Jim Carrey is probably going to play George Jetson, which honestly? Brilliant casting. Carrey’s comedy style is so distinct, I think he’d be a fantastic foundation for the whole family dynamic. It’s interesting because George was usually the ‘normal’ one on the show, with everyone else being super wacky, so this could flip that on its head. I’m really hoping they keep what made the original *The Jetsons* so great – and that *definitely* includes Rosie the Robot! She was always hilarious, and I’m excited to see who they get to voice her this time around. We don’t have a release date yet, but fingers crossed we’ll get some solid news soon.
