JJK’s Fumihiko Takaba Has the Potential to Surpass Gojo

As the third season of the anime nears its halfway point, several new characters have been introduced over the last ten episodes. Following the devastating events of the Shibuya Incident arc in Season 2, main characters Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro are now looking for help as they navigate the challenging 10-Colony landscape of Kenjaku’s Culling Game.

With Satoru Gojo now sealed away, the balance of power in the jujutsu world has shifted. A wave of new and reborn sorcerers are fighting to prove their strength, with the strong rising to the top. Among them, Fumihiko Takaba is emerging as a particularly powerful figure, potentially even surpassing Gojo in ability.

It’s Easy to Underestimate Fumihiko Takaba Because He’s So Silly

In Jujutsu Kaisen, Episode 57 wasn’t the first time viewers saw Fumihiko Takaba. He was originally introduced in Episode 50, “About the Culling Game,” where we learned about his struggling comedy career. Even though he isn’t a successful comedian, Takaba still loves making people laugh – even if he’s the only one who finds himself funny.

Takaba always dreamed of being an entertainer, hoping to overcome his childhood loneliness by making others laugh. This desire naturally manifested as a powerful cursed technique, though he’s unaware of just how strong he’s become. Because he also refuses to kill anyone in the Culling Game, other sorcerers underestimate him as a serious threat.

When Reggie Star and Iori Hazenoki teamed up to attack, his dramatic entrance was met with bewilderment. He looked absurd, wearing only half of the superhero costume that used to make him laugh as a child – the rest of his body was completely exposed. Standing there with blood gushing from his head, he claimed to be unharmed, which only made the situation even more ridiculous.

Underestimating Takaba was their initial error. He started with a joke to demonstrate his power, and Fushiguro, Reggie, and Hazenoki all sensed a huge increase in his cursed energy. When no one laughed at his joke, he unexpectedly launched a powerful dropkick on Hazenoki, completely catching everyone off guard.

Takaba Not Understanding His Own Cursed Technique Is a Disadvantage

Suddenly gaining incredible powers doesn’t come with a guide, and Fumihiko Takaba handles it uniquely. He embraces the chaos of the Culling Game by being his flamboyant, over-the-top self, which surprisingly gives him an edge. Ultimately, he approaches the situation as he always has – to provide entertainment.

Takaba may not fully understand his incredibly strong cursed technique, but it’s not a problem right now. He demonstrated exceptional skill in close-range fighting during his battle with Hazenoki. His speed and agility make him a hard target, and this will be a significant advantage for him throughout the rest of the Culling Game.

Takaba is a skilled fighter, but his true power lies in a unique cursed technique. However, he doesn’t understand how his technique actually works, which limits its effectiveness. Because he’s unaware of his ability to alter reality, he struggles to use it to its full potential. This is further complicated by the fact that his confidence directly impacts his technique – even a small amount of self-doubt could lead to failure in a fight against a strong opponent.

Even Gege Akutami Confirmed That Takaba Is Potentially Stronger Than Gojo

The author explained that Takaba’s power isn’t inherently too strong – it’s Takaba himself who’s limiting it. Because he has no idea how to properly use his ability, called ‘Comedian,’ he’s not reaching its full potential. While this is probably a good thing, it also means things could become dangerous, as he doesn’t understand what his power can do. He could unintentionally change reality without even realizing it.

This comedian has a unique power: he can change reality based on what he finds funny. A well-timed joke could even break through Satoru Gojo’s normally impenetrable defenses – both his Limitless and Six Eyes – leaving him unusually open to attack. Without Limitless to shield him, and without his precise control over cursed energy, Gojo would have to drastically change his fighting strategy.

Gojo has invested so much effort into becoming the strongest, he’d likely be a formidable opponent, but it’s unclear how long he could maintain that edge. Throughout the anime, we’ve seen how dedicated Gojo was to his training, making him the complete opposite of Fumihiko Takaba. Takaba, in contrast, is effortlessly powerful and lacks any real discipline.

If Takaba could somehow neutralize Gojo’s immense power, he’d have a chance against even the strongest opponents. Luckily, Takaba is a kind person who doesn’t want to hurt anyone – his biggest wish is simply to make others happy.
