Joan Cusack, Tom Hanks & More Shine Bright at Toy Story 5 Premiere

These toys see everything.

Fortunately, the celebrities at the Los Angeles premiere of Toy Story 5 on June 9th put a lot of effort into their outfits.

The event’s red carpet welcomed the stars of the film, including Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, who have famously voiced Woody and Buzz Lightyear for three decades. Joan Cusack, the voice of Jessie, was also in attendance.

Hanks channeled his character’s style, wearing a long-sleeved shirt with a black vest, brown pants, and leather boots. Allen, on the other hand, opted for a classic, streamlined suit.

I was so thrilled to see Joan Cusack back on the red carpet last month at the Toy Story 5 event – it’s been over ten years! She looked fantastic in an off-the-shoulder pantsuit, and it was lovely to see her with her husband, Richard Burke, and their sons, Dylan and Miles. It really made my day!

The cast included returning favorites Wallace Shawn as Rex and John Ratzenberger as Hamm. Joining them were new actors Greta Lee as Lily Pad, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, and Craig Robinson as Atlas.

The latest film in the animated series features Lee, a clever tablet, who starts out friendly but quickly becomes a problem. Jessie, Buzz, and the other toys discover that Lee is distracting Bonnie (Scarlett Spears) and making her lose interest in playing with them or her friends.

The toys ask Woody for help—he previously left with Bo Peep in Toy Story 4 to save abandoned toys—to bring back the joy and imagination of childhood.

Taylor Swift made an appearance at the movie’s premiere, just four days after releasing a new song she co-wrote with Jack Antonoff for the film. The song, titled “I Knew It, I Knew You,” marked a return to her country music style.

At 36, the artist always dreamed of writing a song for the series, especially since the music is famously led by Randy Newman. This opportunity made that dream a reality.

Okay, seriously, when Taylor wrote this song, she nailed it. She posted on Instagram that it felt like she was trying something totally new, but also like it just… fit. She said writing for Jessie was a challenge, but also super natural, which, honestly, makes perfect sense because it’s Taylor Swift. And can we talk about the fact that she’s been a Toy Story kid since she was FIVE?! It’s the cutest! She basically said she’ll be a Toy Story fan forever, and honestly, same! ‘To infinity and beyond’ is her life motto now, and it’s amazing.

She told Newman, “You built the amazing world of the Toy Story musical, and we’re so fortunate to be a part of it.”
