John Cena is returning to the ring—just not in the way his fans are used to.
Almost two years after retiring from WWE, the 48-year-old announced he’ll be hosting the two-day WrestleMania 42 event in Las Vegas on April 18th.
While filming on set, John jokingly mentioned enjoying retirement in the sun in a video posted to X on March 30th. He then revealed he was actually working on a Netflix movie called One Attempt Remaining, which will be released at a later date.
The retired wrestler, who competed in WWE for two decades, hinted that he’s currently traveling as well.
John joked, “It’s funny, actually.” He explained that with WrestleMania approaching and Hollywood being so near Las Vegas, there’s talk that the event needs a host. He added with a grin, “I’m already working on making that happen.”
As he performed his famous ‘You can’t see me’ gesture – waving his hand in front of his face – he also said, “I’ll see you at WrestleMania.”
John will return to WrestleMania next month for the first time since his surprising loss to Gunther (Walter Hahn) in what was billed as his final match last December. That match, which lasted only 24 minutes, left many longtime WWE fans disappointed.
While it wasn’t entirely unexpected, John will once again host WrestleMania. The actor, known for Ricky Stanicky, has often said that he considers WWE a permanent part of his life, even though he’s no longer wrestling.

I love WWE – it’s always been my home,” he said after announcing his retirement in July 2024. “Even though my body is telling me I’m nearing the end of my career, I don’t want to step away from something I’m so passionate about. I want to finish performing at my best, and I plan to stay involved with the WWE family for a long time to come.”

According to a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, the character Bobby Nash was intentionally created to make a sacrifice, as a way to honor the bravery of first responders who risk their lives for others. The writers felt his storyline was a fitting tribute to their dedication.
The decision to kill off a popular, yet troubled, firefighter was definitely controversial, showrunner Tim Minear told Variety. He explained that after eight seasons, it was necessary to raise the stakes for future storylines, and that meant someone needed to die.

It’s hard to believe it’s been seven summers since I first started following this podcast! I’m so incredibly thankful for all the fun times, the amazing community we’ve built, and everything this journey has given me. But honestly, it feels like the right time to say goodbye to this chapter – even though it’s bittersweet. It’s been a wild ride, and I’ll cherish the memories, but it’s time to move on.
