John Cleese will soon provide a fresh introduction for the stage adaptation of “Fawlty Towers,” which is scheduled to premiere on U&Gold in the coming month as part of the 50-year anniversary festivities of this renowned sitcom.
During a recent performance of Fawlty Towers: The Play at London’s Apollo Theatre, the show’s co-creator and leading actor unexpectedly appeared on stage, stepping into the limelight to record a brief introduction for the play’s upcoming television premiere.
In the opening, Cleese expresses his gratitude towards the cast and crew, then goes on to share that they combined elements from three different episodes, resulting in an impressive climax. This creative fusion, he suggests, has culminated in what may very well be the funniest show ever produced since the creation of the universe.
The Hotel Inspector,” “The Germans,” and “Communication Problems.
On September 19th, you can catch a live performance broadcast on U&Gold, featuring the original cast members of the play. The talented lineup includes Adam Jackson-Smith portraying Basil, Anna-Jane Casey bringing Sybil to life, Hemi Yeroham playing Manuel, and Victoria Fox as Polly.

Back in July, it was revealed that the rights to the West End stage production of Fawlty Towers were acquired by U+GOLD. At the time, John Cleese commented, expressing his delight over the impressive reception of Fawlty Towers: The Play since its premiere in the West End and expressing his excitement that U&Gold will be bringing it directly into people’s homes for the 50th anniversary.
Gerald Casey, head of programming, comedy, and entertainment at UKTV, as well as director of commissioning, expressed his thoughts about the upcoming screening: “Fawlty Towers is a significant part of British humor, and we’re proud to be the initial platform for TV viewers to watch this new stage adaptation to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary.
“With the legendary John Cleese at the helm, U&Gold viewers are really in for something special.”
