“Oh John Goodman, where art thou?” may not be a question on Roseanne Barr’s mind.
To clarify, the character portrayed by the man known as the “Roseanne” matriarch stated that he hasn’t exchanged words with his previous TV spouse since her dismissal from the show’s comeback in 2018.
Goodman shared with The Hollywood Reporter (published on July 9) that he’s unsure if she still wants to communicate with him, as they haven’t spoken for roughly seven to eight years. He and Barr co-starred together on her sitcom from 1988 to 1997, and again during its brief reboot.
As a devoted fan, I must share that initially, the show “Roseanne” was set for its 11th season. However, amidst the series’ triumph, a regrettable tweet comparing a presidential advisor, Valerie Jarrett, to an ape, was posted by me on Twitter (then X). This action prompted ABC to rescind the show’s renewal.
Channing Dungey, former president of ABC Entertainment, strongly criticized Roseanne’s Twitter post as offensive and contradictory to our principles. As a result, we made the decision to terminate her show.
A new show titled “The Conners” was given the go-ahead following the premiere, during which Barr’s character was written out. Featuring Goodman, along with original cast members Laurie Metcalfe, Sara Gilbert, and Alicia Goranson, it aired from 2018 until its conclusion in April.
Although they aren’t overly acquainted currently, Goodman continues to hold dear the joy they shared during their collaboration, a bond that formed from the very moment they crossed paths.
As I shared with The Hollywood Reporter, there was an instant connection with her – from the get-go, if you will. She had me laughing, and I returned the favor, creating a delightful atmosphere that felt truly unique. To put it simply, we had a blast! It was a memorable period in time.
In a pensive moment, the 73-year-old contemplated the influence of “Roseanne” and its portrayal of ordinary individuals who might have been underrepresented during its initial broadcast.
In his own words, Goodman stated, “The characters were essentially versions of myself and those close to me. As Roseanne put it so accurately, ‘We may be poor, but that doesn’t make us unintelligent.’ This resonated deeply with me when creating the show.
Furthermore, the Emmy award recipient took time to savor the moment, expressing, “I wasn’t sure how long this would continue, but I truly relished every minute of it.

As a devoted fan, I find myself reflecting upon the recent cancellation of “Roseanne,” a show that had just returned to our screens. The actions of its star, Roseanne Barr, sparked controversy when she made a tweet likening Valerie Jarrett to an ape. Although she later apologized and claimed it was meant as a joke, ABC decided to pull the plug on the series after only one season.
The television series featuring Shawty Lo and his 11 children by 10 different women was abruptly cancelled prior to its broadcast, due to a massive public uproar.
A children’s version of the survival-themed television show, “Survivor,” may initially seem appealing as a winner-takes-all format. However, it raised concerns when CBS was alleged to have disregarded the wellbeing of its contestants. Consequently, this program was taken off the air.
The VH1 reality show featuring Megan Hauserman had to be stopped suddenly, as it emerged that one of her television admirers was a fugitive accused of murder.
MTV ended the reality series Buckwild after Shain Gandee’s tragic death due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
As a devoted admirer, I would have been thrilled to see the Benham twins, Jason and David Benham, shine on HGTV as their potential successors. However, their dream of becoming household names was dashed when the network discovered their past as ardent advocates against same-sex relationships, leading to the cancellation of their show.
Did you recall CeeLo Green’s reality series back in 2014? Maybe not, as it only ran for six episodes before getting axed due to some contentious tweets regarding rape made by the artist and pending legal issues he was dealing with at that time.
The actor Dustin Hoffman, in collaboration with HBO, developed a drama series that contained all the ingredients for success. Regrettably, the show was terminated in 2012 due to a tragic incident involving the deaths of three horses during filming on set.
In 2013, the Food Network chose to part ways with Paula Deen after she openly admitted using a racially offensive term.
Throughout the country, I’ve been granted the privilege to enter numerous homes and connect with people who have generously shared their heartwarming and intimate stories. This experience wouldn’t have been possible without The Food Network. Once more, my gratitude. Sending love and best culinary wishes to each and every one of you,” Deen expressed in a statement.
During its initial broadcast, The Cosby Show wasn’t canceled. However, starting in 2014, most networks stopped airing reruns of the show following widespread news about rape allegations against Bill Cosby. This exclusion continued until 2018, with BounceTV being the exception that later joined in.
The long-running series, 7th Heaven, was initially not terminated during its initial broadcast; however, rebroadcasts were halted following allegations that one of the main actors, Stephen Collins, admitted to molesting underage girls. Later on, UP TV resumed airing episodes but eventually discontinued them again.
In 2015, the television network TLC decided to cancel the reality show “19 Kids and Counting,” which focused on the Duggar family, following claims that Josh Duggar had engaged in acts of sexual abuse.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share some insights following the recent spotlight on the Duggars. This attention has ignited a crucial and necessary discussion about child protection, a topic close to my heart. In response, TLC is collaborating with victims’ rights organizations and advocacy groups such as RAINN and Darkness to Light to explore how we can leverage this moment to address child sexual abuse effectively. We are also working closely with the Duggar family to produce a one-hour documentary that sheds light on this pressing issue.
After a brief absence, the Duggars didn’t stay off TLC for too long. Instead, they returned with a new show titled “Counting On“, which focused on their siblings (excluding Josh) from 2015 until 2021.
A show similar to TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras, titled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, focused on the life of Alana Thompson, her mother June Shannon (also known as Mama June), her father Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, and her three sisters. This series was popular on the network, but its course took a different direction when it was revealed that Mama June was in a relationship with a convicted child molester. TLC decided to end the show in 2014.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m sharing some important news: TLC has made the decision to discontinue the series “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” and cease all related activities, effective immediately. The wellbeing of these exceptional children is our utmost priority, and we are fully devoted to ensuring their continued comfort and happiness. Our commitment remains steadfast in supporting them during this transition.
After a stint on ‘Marriage Boot Camp’, Mama June later secured her own television series chronicling her weight loss journey and family life, titled ‘Mama June: From Hot to Not and Back Again’, which premiered in 2017.
