Many movie series would make great video games, but the John Wick films always seemed like a perfect fit that hadn’t happened yet. Recently, Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson announced the studio is now looking into developing big-budget games based on John Wick and the Saw horror franchise.
Tech4Gamers reports that Lionsgate’s Fogelson mentioned growing interest in making a John Wick game. However, specific plans haven’t been officially revealed. Fogelson stated they’re exploring major gaming opportunities with John Wick, Saw, and other franchises they plan to announce in the future.
The John Wick movies are known for their exciting, quick action. They center around John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves, a former hitman who returns to that life after tragedy strikes his family – the death of his wife and dog. So far, there have been four John Wick films, plus a spin-off called Ballerina. While John Wick starred in one video game, John Wick Hex, a strategy game released in 2019, it’s no longer available to purchase.
The character has also made appearances in other titles, namely Fortnite and Payday 2.
Lionsgate has been discussing a large-scale John Wick video game for some time. Back in November 2022, CEO Jon Felthimer mentioned they were reviewing proposals for such a project. While he didn’t share specifics, he expressed confidence in the potential for a major AAA John Wick game, saying they were actively considering moving forward but weren’t ready to announce details yet.
The possibility of expanding the John Wick universe came up again in May 2023. Joe Drake, president of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, mentioned they were developing several projects based on the franchise, including not just major video games, but also spin-off movies and TV shows.
Drake explained that they’re expanding beyond the main video game to include frequent spin-off games and a growing presence on television. The goal is to create a consistent stream of content for a franchise that fans clearly want more of.
