While many anticipated it, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina didn’t receive a very enthusiastic reception, which is a shame. Despite being a standout action film in a strong year for the genre, it didn’t perform well in theaters. Fortunately, the future looks brighter for the John Wick franchise, with promising developments expected in 2026.
The new movie From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is now available on HBO Max, alongside all four John Wick films. It’s good news that it’s currently the most-watched movie on the streaming service!
Ballerina Was The John Wick Franchise’s First Flop
The movie From the World of John Wick: Ballerina didn’t perform well at the box office. It earned about $140 million globally, but cost $90 million to make, making it a significant financial failure.
The latest John Wick movie is the second-highest-earning film in the series, and each movie has made more money than the last. John Wick: Chapter 4 reached almost $450 million worldwide, making it the most successful film in the franchise so far.
While the original John Wick movies have been incredibly successful, the spin-off attempts haven’t fared as well. Ballerina wasn’t a hit, and the TV series The Continental received lukewarm reactions, particularly when measured against the quality of the main films.
Ballerina Is Actually A Great Action Movie
Even though it didn’t do well at the box office, Ballerina is a surprisingly great action movie. It follows Eve, a highly skilled assassin trained by the Ruska Roma, as she seeks revenge on those responsible for her father’s death.
The basic idea isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s effective, particularly for an action movie. What really stands out is the incredible action – from Eve fighting off hordes of assassins to the spectacular flamethrower battle, it’s among the best action you’ll find.
Ana de Armas is another reason the movie succeeds. She’s consistently demonstrated her talent, and Ballerina is further proof. She’s fully capable of carrying a film like this, just as effectively as Keanu Reeves.
The movie Ballerina received generally positive reviews, earning a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers loved it even more, giving it a 92% rating – higher than all other John Wick films except for John Wick: Chapter 4. This suggests the film is excellent, even though it didn’t perform well at the box office.
What Ballerina’s Streaming Success Could Mean
As a movie fan, I’m honestly a little surprised to see Ballerina doing so well on HBO Max! It’s amazing that it’s actually beating out huge titles like John Wick: Chapter 4 and both Dune films. I’m really curious to see if it can keep up the momentum and stay near the top of the charts.
Okay, so the people behind the film – producer Erica Lee and director Len Wiseman – are definitely open to continuing Eve’s story. Wiseman even has some ideas about what happens next, particularly how Ana de Armas’ character deals with the fallout from her choices. But honestly? The movie didn’t make enough money at the box office, so a sequel seems pretty much off the table. It’s a shame, because there’s potential, but financially, it just doesn’t look good.
As a big movie fan, I’ve noticed this character is consistently popular on streaming platforms, which tells me people really like them. That opens up a lot of possibilities – a TV series seems like a natural next step, honestly. Plus, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them show up in a future John Wick movie, especially if the other spin-offs do well. It feels like there’s a lot of potential there.
If Ballerina remains popular on its streaming platform, there’s a strong possibility we’ll see the character Eve return. The character, the overall series, and the film Ballerina itself all warrant a continuation in some form.
