‘John Wick’ Creator Finds His Next Action Thriller Franchise With Killer Comic Book Adaptation

Keanu Reeves may have found someone to eventually take over the role of John Wick, and the creator of the John Wick films seems to have as well. The writer and director, known for Nobody and the upcoming Normal (both starring Bob Odenkirk), will be directing a live-action movie based on the comic book Ordained. He’s cast a highly acclaimed, Oscar-nominated actor to play the main character.

At a recent New York Comic Con event for Bad Idea Comics, it was revealed that the actor known for playing The Penguin will be the main character in an upcoming action thriller. The story centers on a Catholic priest – who also happens to be a former Navy SEAL – as he becomes a target for the Irish mafia.

Derek Kolstad, known for his work on John Wick, plans to adapt the comic Ordained into a live-action project, according to BleedingCool.com. He’s already worked with Bad Idea Comics, co-writing Planet Death with Ordained‘s author, Robert Venditti. Kolstad was so eager to adapt Ordained that he contacted the publisher immediately, jokingly telling them they’d have to take the project from him before he’d let it go.

The new comic book series, Ordained, will be released on December 10, 2025. It’s written by Robert Venditti, the author of popular titles like “Superman ‘78” and “Planet Death,” and features artwork by Trevor Hairsine (“DCEASED,” “X-Men”). Dave Stewart, a ten-time Eisner Award winner known for his work on “Hellboy” and “Star Wars,” is providing the coloring. The creators promise a fast-paced, intense crime comic filled with action.

Details about how Colin Farrell will play the role are still being kept secret, but the concept of such a talented actor as a priest who’s also a skilled fighter taking on the Irish mafia is incredibly exciting. It’s a premise that’s sure to grab the attention of action movie fans. Here’s the official description of Ordained from Bad Idea Comics…

Father Royston Craig started his journey as a priest later in life, and he’s dedicated to fully embracing his calling. In addition to his work at his church in St. Louis, he provides last rites and comfort to patients at a local hospital.

One day, Father Roy received a call to administer last rites to Cormac Byrne, a man not expected to live through the night. Like many facing death, Byrne had only recently turned to religion, having not attended church for decades. Father Roy was ready to hear his confession, but what began as stories of minor offenses from the past quickly escalated into a disturbing account of gang violence and multiple killings.

Cormac Byrne isn’t just any man—he leads the Irish mafia. After sincerely repenting, he receives absolution from Father Roy and appears to die peacefully. However, he unexpectedly makes a full recovery. Quickly resuming his criminal life, Byrne needs to deal with some unfinished business. His top priority? Eliminate the priest who now knows all of his secrets.

Father Roy wasn’t always a priest. Byrne will soon discover that he used to be Royston Craig, a Navy SEAL who found religion while serving in combat. Now, as a priest, Father Roy faces a dangerous world of gangsters and corrupt police, all while battling his own personal struggles. He’ll have to rely on skills from his past life, skills he thought he’d left behind, but he remains determined not to take a life, even to save his own.
