The popular series “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” is gearing up for a comeback in anime format, delving deep into the universe of “Steel Ball Run.” As Hirohiko Araki carries on the manga storyline through “The JOJOLands,” it seems this unusual franchise isn’t slowing down. Although the Joestars remain the central characters in both the animated and comic worlds, the live-action realm has been dominated by Kishibe Rohan. Following his return to the big screen, a new movie centered around the manga artist is scheduled for release, and here’s when we can anticipate its premiere.
On September 12th, “Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: Confessions” will be available on Amazon Prime Video, showcasing Rohan’s quest to gather fresh material for his manga in an unanticipated locale. The film made its debut in Japan on May 23rd this summer, but failed to screen in North American theaters post-release. Interestingly, this film isn’t the first live-action adaptation of Rohan, as a past TV series chronicled the Stand user’s side journeys. Returning original cast members, “Confessions” rejuvenates one of the spookiest tales from the JoJo spin-off.
The Controversy of Rohan
One contentious aspect of the movie “Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: Confessions” was its soundtrack. Surprisingly, the composer Naruyoshi Kikuchi disclosed that the music for the film was generated by artificial intelligence, a revelation that left many fans bewildered. Kikuchi clarified that this was the first original soundtrack in the global entertainment industry where all tracks were entirely composed by AI (not just parts of it, but the entirety, excluding pre-existing songs). The team at SHIN-ON-GAK Production Studio put forth their utmost effort to create hauntingly solemn compositions for this work. Fans are encouraged to eagerly anticipate its release!
Naruyoshi went into more detail about how he crafted the show’s soundtrack, fanning the flames of debate. “The history of ‘Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan’ coincides with the growth of SHIN-ON-GAK Production Studio, a company I started, and mirrors the rapid advancement of generative AI,” he said. “Take, for instance, Episode 8 of Season 3 in the drama series, ‘Rock-Paper-Scissors Kid.’ There, an entire track was created using AI. Today’s advanced generative AI technology allows us to produce music that sounds like it was played and sung by humans – from full orchestras to ethnic music, and even soundtracks featuring vocals.
Rohan’s Return
In the realm of live-action adaptations, Rohan made a reappearance, which was also fueled by Hirohiko Araki’s fondness for the character. The creator of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has been continuously writing new installments of Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan and has reintroduced the supporting character from Diamond is Unbreakable in The JOJOLands.
