JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run is a truly unique installment in the series, created by Hirohiko Araki. Many fans consider this arc, which centers around a horse race across North America, to be among the best in the entire JoJo saga. Although the release date for the next part of the David Production anime on Netflix hasn’t been announced yet, a new trailer suggests that Johnny Joestar’s story will be starting strong.
The latest trailer gives us a closer look at the main characters and their unique abilities, called Stands. The winner of this upcoming anime arc’s race will have their deepest wish granted, so viewers can expect intense battles! The cast includes Shogo Sakata (known from *Chainsaw Man*) as Johnny Joestar, Yohei Azakami (*Demon Slayer*) as Gyro Zeppeli, Kaito Ishikawa (*My Hero Academia*) as Diego Brando, Rie Takahashi (*Oshi no Ko*) as Lucy Steel, and Kenta Miyake (*JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders*) as Steven Steel. Because this story unfolds in a completely new universe, longtime *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure* fans should anticipate some significant differences.
The Joestars’ Big Horse Race
Following the conclusion of *Stone Ocean*, where Pucci successfully reached heaven and recreated the universe, *Steel Ball Run* begins. Although Pucci was defeated, the universe wasn’t restored to its original state, resulting in a completely new timeline. This means characters like Jolyne Cujoh are gone, replaced by new versions like Irene. While *Steel Ball Run* is set in the early 1900s, you can anticipate seeing characters who resemble familiar faces, despite the altered timeline.
As we’ve discussed, the anime *Steel Ball Run* will be available only on Netflix, and this has made some fans hesitant. The previous *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure* series, *Stone Ocean*, didn’t release episodes weekly like earlier seasons. Instead, it was split into three batches that came out months apart. Fans really enjoyed watching new episodes every week – a tradition known as “JoJo Fridays” – and were disappointed when that schedule changed.
As a huge *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure* fan, I’m so glad the story keeps going even between anime seasons! Hirohiko Araki is *still* writing the manga, and the current arc, *The JOJOLands*, is really exciting. It follows a new set of Joestar siblings, Jodio and Dragona, who are trying to make a better life for their mom. They’re getting into some seriously strange situations involving a weird lava rock, and their lives are getting totally turned upside down! We’ll probably have to wait a while to see this part animated, but knowing how popular *JoJo’s* is, I’m pretty confident Jodio and Dragona’s story will eventually hit Netflix – and I can’t wait!
