The first part of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run anime is now available on Netflix and is receiving positive feedback from fans. While it’s unclear when new episodes will be released – David Production hasn’t announced a date for the second part – the anime is already proving to be a hit. Netflix ratings show it’s performing very well and surpassing other shows on the platform. Fans are eager to see Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppelli continue their race, and the initial response suggests a bright future for the adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s popular series.
During its first week, from March 16th to March 22nd, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run ranked second among Netflix’s most popular non-English shows. The introduction of the character Johnny Joestar drew 4.7 million views, totaling 3.7 million hours of watch time – a solid number considering the first episode was 47 minutes long. It’s not surprising that it came in behind BTS The Comeback Live, which topped the charts with 13.1 million views – more than three times the viewership of the new JoJo anime. Still, it was a strong start for the series.
When Will The Steel Ball Run Return?
Fans of the JoJo anime were surprised when a second episode didn’t air a week after the first, meaning the Steel Ball Run adaptation wouldn’t be released weekly. While the first episode covered the initial part of the race, the studio, David Production, and Netflix haven’t announced when more episodes will be available. However, there’s reason to believe we’ll find out about the future of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure soon.
This weekend’s Anime Japan event in Japan (March 28th-29th) will feature JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run. Although it’s not certain, fans are hoping the event will announce a release date for the new season, showcasing the adventures of Johnny and Gyro. Because the Steel Ball Run manga is very long, the anime adaptation is likely to have many episodes if the studio follows the original story closely.
I’ve been following JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and it’s great to see Hirohiko Araki still releasing new manga chapters. After Steel Ball Run finished, the story continued with JoJolion, and now we’re into a new arc called The JOJOLands. It’ll probably be a while – years, most likely – before these newer storylines get adapted into anime, but given how popular JoJo is, I have a feeling we’ll eventually see these Joestars animated alongside characters like Gyro and Johnny.
