Throughout the many years of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, the Joestar family has battled countless enemies, but Dio Brando is arguably the most iconic villain. He wasn’t just the primary antagonist in Phantom Blood and Stardust Crusaders; he also influenced events in stories like Golden Wind and Stone Ocean. This fall, fans in North America will finally be able to read a novel focusing on Dio’s backstory – it’s the first time this light novel has been released in English! And with Steel Ball Run returning later this year, it’s an exciting time for JoJo enthusiasts.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Over Heaven originally came out in 2011 and tells the story of Dio Brando looking back on his past fights. The novel is written from Dio’s perspective, presented as diary entries. Though not penned by the series creator Hirohiko Araki, it was written by Nisio Oshi, and a new edition will feature original artwork by Araki himself. Viz Media recently gave fans a preview of this expanded version of Over Heaven, which exceeds three hundred pages, set to be released next spring.
A Brando of a Different Sort

Even though Jotaro Kujo defeated him at the end of Stardust Crusaders, Dio Brando continued to impact the story of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. His son, Giorno Giovanna, became the main character in Golden Wind, and later, Jolyne Cujoh faced a new enemy named Pucci in Stone Ocean. While Pucci acted on his own plan, it was clearly inspired by Dio, as he had previously studied under the original villain from Phantom Blood.
Because JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run begins in a completely new universe, the villain Dio Brando isn’t part of this story. However, a different version of the Brando name has appeared – Diego Brando! Unlike Dio, who was known as a creature of darkness, we see Diego frequently in bright sunlight. Manga fans already know he possesses powers that could actually make him more dangerous than his predecessor. While there’s no official release date yet, the new anime adaptation of Steel Ball Run is confirmed to arrive later this year, so fans won’t have to wait long to continue following the race.
New chapters of the manga JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: The JOJOLands are still being released. The story follows Jodio and Dragona Joestar as they attempt to make a lot of money to support their mother, and it’s proving to be one of the most unusual and exciting parts of the JoJo’s series so far.
