Jon Hamm Discusses James Marsden’s Debut in ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’ Season 2

Following its successful debut in 2025, Apple TV+ is bringing back Jon Hamm for a second season of Your Friends & Neighbors in 2026. Hamm not only stars as Coop, a New York hedge fund manager, but also serves as an executive producer. The show follows Coop’s life after a messy divorce – triggered by his wife’s infidelity – and his sudden job loss. Facing financial ruin, he turns to stealing from his neighbors to maintain his expensive lifestyle, creating a lot of tension and drama for everyone around him.

The show Your Friends & Neighbors already had a strong cast in its first season, successfully adapting Jonathan Tropper’s writing for television. Tropper is also writing the screenplay for the upcoming 2027 Star Wars: Starfighter film. The cast includes well-known actors like Amanda Peet (2012), Olivia Munn (The Newsroom), Lena Hall (Snowpiercer), and Aimee Carrero (The Menu), and they’ll all be returning for new episodes. Jon Hamm even mentioned that one particular actor significantly influenced his experience during the second season.

In an interview with MovieWeb, Jon Hamm discussed the new season of Your Friends & Neighbors and the addition of James Marsden as Owen Ashe. Hamm said the show continues to be compelling, and often, the second season of a show is even better than the first. He was particularly excited about Marsden joining the cast, calling him a fantastic addition.

This is a continuation of the story, and I believe the second chapter is often more engaging than the first, if done well. The neighborhood remains a really interesting setting, and we’ve added a lot of fun elements, especially with the fantastic addition of James Marsden to the show. We’re thrilled to have him, and he’s doing a phenomenal job.

As a fan, I’ve always found Coop and Ashe’s dynamic so interesting! Hamm really hit the nail on the head when he said Coop immediately starts figuring Ashe out, but completely overlooks the fact that she’s the one with leverage. It’s like the power between them shifts the second he shows up, and you just know their relationship is going to be complicated and captivating.

From the moment they meet, I think he immediately misjudges Ash. He completely overlooks the fact that Ash has something over him, and that changes everything fast. Suddenly, Ash has all the power, and it throws the whole dynamic way off balance – it’s really unfair to him. That’s what kicks off the big conflict for the season. He’s now stuck doing what Ash wants, and dealing with someone so unpredictable is going to be a huge struggle.

Actor Marsden is having a busy year! He recently released Your Friends & Neighbors and is also working on the Hulu series Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice. Later in 2024, he’ll be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday, marking his fifth time playing the iconic X-Men character. This new role could be part of the biggest pop culture event of the decade.

In this series, Marsden’s character, Ashe, will challenge Coop and attempt to expose damaging secrets of several main characters, potentially endangering his own family. While the specifics of his role are being kept under wraps, his dynamic with Coop will be a central focus of Season 2.

Your Friends & Neighbors Season 2 will begin streaming on Apple TV+ on Apr. 3.
