Jonathan Cake Jokes He’s to Blame for And Just Like That’s Ending

Carrie Bradshaw’s new lover will miss the loud click of her heels.

Three days following the confirmation by showrunner Michael Patrick King that “And Just Like That” will conclude after three seasons, actor Jonathan Cake playfully hinted that the burgeoning romance between his character and Sarah Jessica Parker’s character might be too intense for the “Sex and the City” spin-off to manage.

Did I really end @justlikethatmax’s character, Duncan Reeves, in my August 4 Instagram post? Jonathan asked this question, hinting that Duncan had a passionate night with Carrie Bradshaw and the show might be over…for good??? Was it his small head, as shown in the picture, or something else that was disappointing? Ah, Duncan Donuts, it seems America won’t rely on you anymore, but it was a delight while it lasted.

Without a doubt, Jonathan’s personality was one of the standout aspects of this season; however, his debut as Carrie’s downstairs neighbor did create a bit of tension.

Or:

Jonathan’s character really shone this season; it’s just that when he moved in as Carrie’s neighbor below her, there was some initial friction.

In episode five, the British writer initially crossed paths with Carrie when he scolded her for her frequent clicking noises from wearing high heels. This chance encounter eventually led to an appearance by the renowned Samantha Jones (played by Kim Cattrall), and little did the audience expect, their initial hostile relationship evolved into a gradual romantic development over time.

As it’s a mix of sweet and sad to bid farewell to Duncan, the 57-year-old took a moment to express gratitude towards his co-stars Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, and fittingly, Sarah for warmly welcoming him onto the HBO Max series.

In his post, he praised SJP for bringing such immense joy to the world for almost three decades. He believes there’s no greater purpose in our profession than what she has achieved. She excelled beyond expectations and her impact continues to spread far and wide. He was grateful to have been a part of her team, even if it was just for a brief moment. Everyone involved is truly exceptional.

Apart from Jonathan, other stars of “And Just Like That” have also pondered over the series finale. Notably, Sarah took to Instagram to express a heartfelt tribute to the stylish character she portrayed for almost three decades.

In her August 1 post, the sixty-year-old wrote: “She traversed streets, avenues, boundaries, appearing as though she did.” “She shattered hearts, shoes, routines. She felt, grieved, prospered, stumbled, jumped, fell just short and into puddles, matured, gained wisdom. She has made the toughest, most regrettable, and most rewarding choices, ventured near and far in search of the novel, the antique, companionship, and affection.

In addition, she paid respect to Carrie’s close group, which included new acquaintances she made during the show’s revival: Sarita Choudhury (Seema Patel) and Nicole Ari Parker (Lisa Todd Wexley).

She expressed that there’s no one better than Seema and LTW to be friends with Carrie, a truly fortunate circumstance. She further stated, ‘Divine new connections,’ she called them. For 27 years, Carrie Bradshaw has held a special place in my professional life, perhaps more so than anyone else.

To celebrate Carrie’s flourishing relationship with Duncan, let’s reminisce about the show’s most memorable love stories as we continue…

Ugh, what an a–hole.

Best moment: N/A.

It’s difficult to recall the playful, sweet interactions between the pair in the beginning when considering the harsh and indirect actions that followed, such as breaking up with her via a post-it note.

Best moment: None are coming to mind at the moment, Berger. We’re sorry, we can’t. Don’t hate us.

No one believed this relationship would last, right? Still, Samantha gave it the ol’ college try.

Standout Moment: Following an evening spent with Carrie and her latest companion (Samantha’s words: “Step aside, Big”), Maria confided in Samantha that their friendship wasn’t an option anymore.

In other words, wasn’t something anticipated by viewers when they started watching Max’s comeback show “And Just Like That…”? The unexpected twist being Miranda leaving her marriage to pursue a comedian nationwide.

Funniest Moment: The most hilarious scene undoubtedly is when Che and Miranda got romantic in Carrie’s kitchen, all the while a post-hip-surgery Carrie was accidentally wetting her bed.

It turns out, the romance between the Russian and Carrie seemed overly idealistic from the start… and it indeed was. He found himself at odds with her circle of friends, while Carrie’s spontaneous decision to move to Paris unfortunately ended up being a calamity.

Priceless Moment: Following numerous extravagant romantic gestures, Carrie found herself utterly smitten. It was only fitting that Petrovsky then whisked her away in her fairytale dress to McDonald’s. There, they shared a sweet slow-dance as they waited for their fries to cook. We couldn’t help but be charmed ourselves.

Initially, Trey appeared to be an ideal match for Charlotte on paper. However, shortly after their marriage, flaws started becoming apparent (such as his overbearing mother, erectile dysfunction, not wanting children, among others). To make matters worse, he presented her with a cardboard cut-out baby! Can you believe it?

Most Memorable Incident: The heartwarming instance when Trey escorted Charlotte to Tiffany’s, allowing her to choose her ideal ring as a sweet gesture to counterbalance his well-known “Alrighty!” remark.

In a surprising turn of events, the initial non-sexual relationship Samantha was in concluded due to, you could say, issues related to intimacy, or more specifically, the size of James’ private area.

Best moment: When Samantha told James she loved him. A huge (no pun intended) moment for her.

Poor, poor Skipper. He was kind of like a Steve-lite, and Miranda was able to walk all over him.

Best moment: When he calls her “luminous” during their chance meeting at a bodega.

It was unexpected in the films, as Carrie’s close friend who also became Charlotte’s wedding organizer ended up in a relationship. However, it seems fitting to us.

Most Memorable Moment: During their wedding vows, Anthony expressed, “It wasn’t an immediate romantic connection, but in reality, it was love. You were the first person to embrace me as the true man I am.

It’s clear that Aidan was an excellent individual, yet he wasn’t the perfect match for Carrie. Despite their best efforts to persuade themselves otherwise, it didn’t work out. But hey, who knows? The second season of And Just Like That… might show us that taking another shot can be all the rage this summer. (Rest assured, we’re choosing to ignore their brief encounter in Sex and the City 2.)

Most memorable instance: Isn’t it peculiar that we found themselves moved by the second parting scene, where they opted to sleep on the floor of the flat they would never share as a couple, instead?

Discuss a hitch: Despite being almost flawless – a charismatic physician for the New York Knicks sharing the same soap opera taste as Miranda – his one weakness lay in not quite measuring up to Steve.

Most Memorable Moment: Their initial lip-locking incident near their lockers, or when she decided to take a day off work for him the very first time, OR HER CONTRACTING CHICKENPOX.

Among all the male characters in Sex and the City, Smith Jerrod could very well be the finest. He displayed remarkable patience and generosity towards Samantha, a woman as fiercely independent as a jaguar, who tirelessly resisted falling in love with the model-turned-celebrity.

Most touching moment: Isn’t it heart-warming to remember Smith cutting off his beautiful hair, for Samantha, as she went through chemotherapy and lost hers?

Absof–kinglutely. (Curse you, Peloton!)

Absolutely!

Best moment: Oh, that’s got to be Big surprising Carrie in Paris, confessing his love for her at last! (And let’s not forget the hilarious bed prank with the whoopee cushion, it still cracks me up!)

Much like Miranda unexpectedly found herself feeling strongly for Steve, we too were taken aback by our affection for the couple – it was as sudden and powerful as the breakup between them in the first season of “And Just Like That…”. Let justice be served for Steve!

A standout instance that truly encapsulated the effortless essence of SATC‘s least fussy pair was when Miranda unexpectedly proposed, followed by their incredibly casual wedding held in a park. They were so fitting, so ideal.

Love can unexpectedly come your way, such as discovering that the less-than-impressive attorney handling your divorce becomes the ideal partner for you and a wonderful parent to your kids beyond expectations.

Most Memorable Moment: The charmingly untidy, flawlessly imperfect wedding ceremony. Since the start of the series, Charlotte had dreamt of a fairytale wedding, yet it turned out that she received the essence of a fairytale marriage instead.

What truly matters in life is your loved ones, be they blood relatives or chosen friends. There are moments when you adore them and others when patience is needed, but they are the constant presence that welcomes you at the end of each day. Your family could be those you’re born to, or the one you create over time.

Standout Scene: Initially, we considered Carrie escorting Miranda at her mother’s funeral as our top pick, but we felt a collective scene involving all four friends was more fitting. Our preferred scene? When Miranda seemingly disregards her wedding following Samantha’s breast cancer revelation, with the quartet setting aside the festivities to support each other instead. This underscores the essence of friendship: prioritizing others over oneself.
