Gege Akutami’s “Jujutsu Kaisen” was already garnering significant popularity as a Weekly Shonen Jump publication, but its anime adaptation by MAPPA significantly boosted the series’ fame. The story revolves around Yuji Itadori, an ordinary high school student with remarkable physical power. He spends his days with the Occult Club, who stumble upon a legendary Cursed Finger that was too potent for them to manage safely. Since then, Yuji’s life has taken a drastic turn when he crossed paths with Megumi Fushiguro, a young Jujutsu sorcerer in search of the finger. With the arrival of a significant danger linked to the Cursed Object, Yuji was compelled to ingest the finger in order to protect Megumi and his Occult Club members.
In an extraordinary turn of events, Yuji, an ordinary human, found himself chosen among a million others to host history’s most powerful sorcerer. This fascinating tale is the premise of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” a series that captivated audiences worldwide with its distinctive power system. As the first season concluded, the show skyrocketed in popularity, causing many fans to turn to the manga ahead of Season 2’s release. However, with the manga now completed and Season 3 of the anime still years away, there’s a possibility that we might face a situation similar to “Attack on Titan,” where fans must wait for a significant amount of time before the next installment.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan’s Endings!
Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan Both Had Extremely Controversial Endings
As a passionate fan myself, I can’t help but share my thoughts on two epic series that have taken the world by storm: “Attack on Titan” and “Jujutsu Kaisen.” Both have garnered a massive following, with many dedicated fans reading the manga up until the very end. However, the climax of both stories stirred up quite a storm among viewers, as some of the scenes were deeply nuanced and not universally appreciated. Additionally, the heart-wrenching deaths of beloved characters left us all in tears.
When it comes to “Jujutsu Kaisen,” the anticipation was so high that leaks about the ending were followed by millions. Fans couldn’t help but share spoilers on social media, sparking a wave of mixed reactions across the fandom.
In essence, these series have left an indelible mark on us, with discussions about their endings echoing in every corner of the anime community.
From my perspective as an onlooker, it’s clear that the finale of Jujutsu Kaisen left many viewers feeling underwhelmed, with a strong sense of anticlimax. However, a dedicated few argued that the series intentionally left certain questions unanswered, suggesting we didn’t necessarily need those answers to appreciate the story. This divide in opinion within the fanbase is quite apparent, as more people seem critical of the ending than supportive. Some fans have even made an attempt, albeit in vain, to rewrite the series’ conclusion according to their personal expectations, which unfortunately led to a number of less favorably received unofficial Jujutsu Kaisen projects.
In the context of “Attack on Titan,” the ending, though still criticized by some, became less intensely disliked following the release of the anime adaptation due to the passage of time softening fan’s initial disappointment with the original scenes. Given that MAPPA, who also worked on “Attack on Titan” during Season 4, is adapting “Jujutsu Kaisen,” it’s reasonable for fans to anticipate a similar timeline between the manga and anime endings for “Jujutsu Kaisen.” As of December 2023, “Jujutsu Kaisen” Season 3 has been announced and is currently in production. This significant gap between the manga and potential anime ending has sparked speculation among fans that things may unfold in a similar manner.
Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan Endings Share Certain Similarities
It’s important to note that conclusions that are skeptical or thoughtful may not resonate similarly with everyone. For instance, in the anime series Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen, both Eren Yeager and Satoru Gojo respectively faced tragic ends. However, these deaths garnered more criticism than acclaim, particularly in the early stages due to their sudden and unsatisfying nature. As a result, fans found themselves in disbelief, frustration, and mourning that was often expressed humorously through memes. Despite numerous theories suggesting revival, neither character returned from the dead.
In summary, Mikasa’s kiss on Eren’s severed head was meant to be an emotional scene, but its disturbing presentation left many viewers indifferent. The cycle of destruction and chaos continues in both series, as Paradis still lies in ruins years after Eren’s death. A young boy with a dog stumbles upon the tree where Eren is buried, which mirrors the tree that granted Ymir her Titan powers. This suggests the potential for the boy to inherit Titan abilities, thereby potentially reigniting the cycle of turmoil and danger in the world. Consequently, there’s a high chance that the current world faces the prospect of experiencing the same ordeals all over again.
In the anime ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’, Nobara utilized Sukuna’s 20th finger as a means to unleash her Resonance, acting as a powerful finale. Despite Sukuna’s demise, this final finger persisted and was locked away due to its indestructible nature. The seal on it will gradually become weaker, similar to when the Yuji’s Occult Club discovered it in a weakened state. Since the curse cycle hasn’t been broken, there remains a chance that another individual may emerge as Sukuna’s replacement, potentially causing more chaos and turmoil worldwide.
After Season 3, Jujutsu Kaisen May Not Have the Same Reception As Before
In the third season of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” I’ll be witnessing the adaption of the Culling Game Arc, following the broadcast of the Itadori Extermination and Perfect Preparation Arcs, which delve into the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident. Post-Culling Game, we’ll see Gojo making his return from the Prison Realm, setting the stage for a historic battle between some of the strongest characters. This fight offers an incredibly engaging experience, boasting some of the best action scenes in contemporary shonen. However, the narrative takes a turn after Gojo’s demise, as it has caused quite a divide among the fanbase.
The battle against Sukuna persists, as nearly every character takes part in confronting the Curse King. This final storyline is heavily focused on action, with some thrilling sequences unfolding. Watching this climactic arc unfold in an animated format might help alleviate fans’ discontentment, but it may not fully meet the expectations of a significant portion of the fanbase. Despite their individual excellence, neither series can please everyone within such a vast fan community.
