The creator behind “Jujutsu Kaisen” is making a comeback to Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine with a fresh new series, and fans have been given their first glimpse into what the creator has in store next. With its original run ending surprisingly during the height of the franchise’s popularity, “Jujutsu Kaisen” became one of the standout franchises from Shonen Jump towards the end of the 2010s. The series has continued to gain traction due to two seasons of a TV anime (with another on the horizon) and a feature film debut, but now fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next for this popular manga series.
The manga series “Jujutsu Kaisen” concluded in Shonen Jump magazine back in December, but its creator, Gege Akutami, has since been busy working on a new major project. Joining forces with the creator of “Cipher Academy,” Yuji Iwasaki, they are set to return to the magazine with the upcoming issue of Shonen Jump, which will be released next week. Their new series is called “Mojuro” (though its official English title has not been confirmed yet). Unlike “Jujutsu Kaisen”, this new series is expected to have a much more limited run. Check out the first sneak peek of Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki’s new series, shared by Shueisha, below.
What Is Mojuro?
With the first announcement, not much has been disclosed about the enigmatic tale of Mojuro. However, several details have been verified. The creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami, will be penning the new series, while Yuji Iwasaki, who created Cipher Academy, will handle the art. Unlike Jujutsu Kaisen, which ran for several years, this upcoming manga is referred to as a “short-term” project. It’s intended to tell its own self-contained story and conclude within a reasonable number of chapters, reducing the risk of cancellation if it falls short of 100 chapters.
This weekend, the inaugural chapter of the manga “Mojuro” will be released in Shonen Jump’s upcoming issue. The chapter consists of a total of 54 pages, with a color page serving as an intro. Since their previous work, “Cipher Academy,” concluded in February 2024, and “Jujutsu Kaisen” ended in December of the same year, it’s intriguing to speculate about what fresh ideas these creators might be bringing to the table now that they’re ready with their new projects.
What’s Next for Jujutsu Kaisen?
Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen have much anticipation ahead, as more exciting content is on its way. The creator has hinted at a new project, yet the anime franchise will initiate a fresh wave next year. Tentatively titled Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1, it’s slated to premiere in January 2026, as part of the Winter 2026 anime lineup. At present, a specific release date hasn’t been confirmed for these new episodes. However, Crunchyroll has secured exclusive streaming rights for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 alongside their Japanese broadcast.
In this location, you can currently watch the initial two seasons and the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. Moreover, there’s an opportunity to catch the upcoming season ahead of its release. GKIDS has arranged a special movie event in theaters on December 5th called Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution. This event will not only present a summary of events from the Shibuya Incident arc in the second season, but also the first two episodes from the Culling Game arc.
