Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen can look forward to the show’s return on January 9th, 2026, continuing the story after the intense Shibuya Incident Arc. To build excitement, the studio MAPPA released a movie, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, which includes a recap of the Shibuya arc and the first episodes of the new season. Plus, a special preview in Jump GIGA Winter 2026 features new character designs for Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Yuta Okkotsu, Maki Zenin, Choso, and Naoya Zenin, all drawn by the series creator, Gege Akutami, in his distinctive style.
Before the upcoming Culling Game Arc begins in the anime, all of these characters will have already appeared. The Winter 2026 issue of the magazine, featuring a preview, is set to release in Japan on January 5th, 2026. Jujutsu Kaisen content has only appeared in this magazine four times, typically to coincide with anime or manga promotions. The last feature was in the Summer 2024 issue, around the time the manga finished its run. Fans always eagerly anticipate cover art by Akutami, and this issue is no exception. The preview was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @WSJ_manga, a trusted source for updates on Shonen Jump series.
Jujutsu Kaisen Will Feature The Aftermath of The Shibuya Incident Before the Culling Game

The third season of the anime, advertised as the beginning of the ‘Culling Game’ arc, will actually start by covering the ‘Extermination’ and ‘Perfect Preparation’ arcs first. The upcoming issue of GIGA magazine will feature characters who play key roles in the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident, which significantly impacted the world of Jujutsu. A new character, Naoya Zenin, will appear as a minor villain targeting Yuji. The trailer hints at a major fight between Yuta and Yuji, with Choso supporting his brother and attempting to shield him from Yuta’s powerful abilities.
Yuta was already a strong fighter in the previous movie, but he’s become even more powerful over the last year. We’ll also see Megumi make his return after a huge mistake: he summoned Mahoraga when he was cornered. This led to Sukuna battling the creature, and tragically, thousands of people died. The anime will also show us what happened to Maki Zenin after she was severely burned by Jogo during the fight with Dagon in Shibuya.
The recent artwork hints at a significant redesign for her character, and most fans have a good idea of what to expect. If you’re new to the story, you can watch the first two seasons and the prequel movie on Crunchyroll or Netflix. Plus, the newest movie is coming to U.S. theaters on December 5th, 2025, so be sure to get your tickets!
