The next Jujutsu Kaisen movie isn’t a completely new story; instead, it continues the series’ narrative, similar to how Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc worked. However, it’s giving fans a sneak peek at the upcoming third season. The movie largely revisits the events of the Shibuya Incident Arc from season two, but also includes the first part of the Culling Game Arc. While the third season will air on television in January and the movie Execution comes to the U.S. next month, Japanese audiences have already seen the film and are sharing their reactions.
The first two episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, titled Execution, show Yuji Itadori facing the consequences of the Shibuya Incident. Produced by MAPPA, these episodes feature impressive animation and visuals. Viewers have praised the smooth flow and stunning quality of the animation, with some comparing it favorably to the high points of Season 2. Early reports from audiences in Japan suggest that Season 3 surpasses even the acclaimed second season, particularly highlighting the fight between Choso and the new character, Naoya. This battle is being described as the best-directed and most visually spectacular sequence in the entire series.
What is The Culling Game?
The Shibuya Incident Arc was incredibly intense, and the new Culling Game arc aims to be just as thrilling. Suguru Geto has awakened a huge number of powerful cursed energy users worldwide, creating a massive pool of fighters for his dangerous tournament. Geto intends for them to battle, hoping to absorb the ultimate winner – a tactic he’s used with many curses before to increase his own power. Yuji Itadori and his friends, who made it through the events of season two, will be pulled into this fight, but they’re starting from a much more vulnerable position this time.
After Sukuna’s devastating attack on Shibuya, which resulted in many innocent deaths, Jujutsu Tech has decided Yuji Itadori must be executed. And now they’ve chosen who will carry out the execution: Yuta Okkotsu. Fans will recognize Yuta from the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. While Yuji is very powerful, Yuta could be his biggest challenge yet. Their first battle will be shown in theaters on December 5th.
