The sequel to *Jujutsu Kaisen* has unexpectedly reintroduced a classic villain, and along with it, a potential clue about what will ultimately happen to Yuji Itadori. *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* has been a captivating series in its early weeks. While it initially promised to continue the story of the original *Jujutsu Kaisen*, fans haven’t seen many direct connections to it yet. Instead, this sequel is set decades after the original and focuses on a new generation of Jujutsu Sorcerers with loose connections to the heroes of the first series.
The limited run of *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* is starting to influence the story, and we’re likely seeing that play out in the latest chapters. The newest issue features a strong connection to the original *Jujutsu Kaisen* series, potentially a very important one. The re-emergence of a key villain from the original also subtly hints at what might happen to Yuji in this sequel. Be warned: Spoilers ahead for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 7!
Mahito Shockingly Returns in Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel
In the latest chapter of *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*, we see Tsurugi Okkotsu recover in the hospital after collapsing in his fight with the older man. While he’s unconscious, he has a disturbing dream featuring Mahito. This is unsettling because it hints that Mahito isn’t truly gone, even after being defeated by Yuji and Todo during the Shibuya Incident. It was previously suggested that Mahito’s intense rage might keep him lingering between life and death, and this dream seems to confirm that he’s still around, even decades later.
This also suggests Yuji will play a role in the upcoming sequel. The previous chapter showed, through a flashback, that Yuji continued fighting Cursed Spirits even after the original story ended, becoming a renowned and powerful sorcerer. The sequel may be setting up his return, likely as an older character, and potentially still alive, as hinted by Mahito.
Is Yuji Still Alive in Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel?
When Mahito appears inside Tsurugi’s mind, he expresses disappointment that Yuji isn’t there. This suggests Mahito might be stuck between life and death, patiently waiting for Yuji to reappear. Though *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* reveals that around 80 years have passed, and some characters like Yuta and Maki have died, the fate of Yuji and others from that time remains unknown. It’s possible Yuji is still alive, now much older, and Mahito is biding his time for a rematch.
The fight between Yuji and Mahito in the original *Jujutsu Kaisen* series concluded with Yuji vowing to defeat Mahito, even if it meant facing him repeatedly. It appears this final showdown is still going to happen, though it might not unfold as fans expect. They’ll likely battle in a strange realm, possibly limbo, and we’ll have to wait and see what the sequel brings.
