The intense Culling Game continues, pushing the characters of Jujutsu Kaisen to their limits against both familiar and new enemies. Separated from his allies Megumi, Maki, and Yuta, Yuji Itadori faces a particularly difficult challenge. He tries to make a deal with Hiromi Higurama, a top player in the Culling Game, but ends up battling a powerful foe and confronting his own troubled past. This recent conflict reveals more about Itadori’s life, solidifying his place as one of the most compelling heroes in shonen manga.
In the newest episode, “Tokyo Colony No. 1 – Part 3,” Yuji attempts to persuade Higurama to use his points to establish a rule that could stop the Culling Game. However, Higurama is reluctant to fight, already having defeated many sorcerers. Though he doesn’t have a powerful cursed spirit inside him, Higurama fights alongside a dangerous spirit called “Judgeman.” This spirit allows him to create trial-like situations, and unfortunately for Yuji, he has a history of actions he must now answer for.
The Crimes of Yuji Itadori

It’s ironic that Yuji’s first legal battle involves a simple teenage offense – trespassing while trying to gamble. His initial defense fails, but a secret rule allows for a retrial. However, the next charge is far more serious – and it’s a crime he didn’t actually commit. When confronted with the murders Sukuna committed during the Shibuya Incident, Yuji surprisingly accepts the blame, solidifying his reputation as a compelling character in Shonen Jump.
Despite being a typical teenager, Yuji in Jujutsu Kaisen has faced a lot of difficult emotional challenges. Even though Sukuna was responsible for the many deaths in Shibuya, Yuji has accepted the blame because they share a body. By immediately taking responsibility, Yuji may have doomed himself, but he didn’t pause for a moment, even though his opponent knew he was innocent.
Yuji is incredibly resilient, having survived a recent battle despite losing his cursed energy. He shares some similarities with classic shonen heroes like Goku and Luffy, showing a thoughtful and introspective side that makes him a more complex character. Even though he’s still in danger, Yuji almost seems ready to sacrifice himself to stop the devastation caused by Sukuna. Jujutsu Kaisen is famous for its action, but the author, Gege Akutami, skillfully weaves in moments of sadness and emotion throughout the story.
Yuji Itadori’s Uniqueness

From the start, Yuji has shown he’s a good person at heart, even if he sometimes seems distant and can be quite headstrong. While the Culling Game hasn’t been more difficult than the events in Shibuya so far, there’s still a lot more to come. As we uncover his past, it seems Yuji was destined to become a sorcerer, but this hasn’t changed who he is. Balancing a normal life with the supernatural world, Itadori excelled at Jujutsu Tech, despite the school now wanting him eliminated.
