The current arc of Jujutsu Kaisen is moving towards its conclusion, with the story expected to wrap up in 2026. Recently, it’s been revisiting key parts of the original narrative, most notably by bringing back a major antagonist, the Queen of Curses. As conflict between humans and the Simurains becomes inevitable, the story is now showcasing two intense battles. In a surprising turn of events, Yuka manages to hold her own against Dabura, revealing she can wield the power of the Ten Shadows and summon Mahoraga, a fan-favorite and incredibly powerful creature from the series.
A surprising fight between Maru and Tsurugi, who have a very close relationship, takes an unexpected turn in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17, “Chaos and Harmony.” Though Maru initially dominates the fight with his powerful cursed techniques, Tsurugi manages to summon the Queen of Curses, Rika, using a ring he inherited from Yuta. We learn Yuta specifically asked Rika to watch over his descendants. Despite her hesitation – and a hint of jealousy towards Yuta’s wife because Tsurugi resembles Maki – Rika ultimately possesses Tsurugi’s body, completely changing the course of the battle.
The Queen of Curses Is Back in the Best Way Possible

When the Queen of Curses returns in the sequel, she doesn’t just fight with Tsurugi; she completely possesses his body. The story shows this dramatically when Tsurugi’s head is replaced by Rika’s, while the rest of him stays human. She takes control as Tsurugi is dying, forcing him to say “accept” before fully taking over. Rika admits she doesn’t want to help him, especially because he reminds her of Maki, but she does it because Yuta requested it. Immediately after taking control, Tsurugi – now controlled by Rika – powerfully attacks Maru, sending him flying.
Because Rika stores cursed energy externally, she significantly boosts Tsurugi’s physical strength – which is especially helpful since he doesn’t have a naturally inherited cursed technique. This enhancement might even let Rika use a copying ability similar to Yuta’s, potentially allowing Tsurugi to use Maru’s own technique against him. As Modulo continues to bring back familiar elements from the original Jujutsu Kaisen, we can expect to see more of these callbacks. This return for Rika feels particularly well-done, showcasing the Queen of Curses’ incredible power and strengthening her connection with Tsurugi, making Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo feel more connected to the original series.
