Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga! Just a month after its release, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo – the sequel to the original series by Gege Akutami and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki – is already full of surprises. The story is set 68 years after the Culling Game, and now focuses on a new threat: 50,000 Simurians, an alien race, have invaded Earth. Sorcerers must fight to prevent a full-scale war. Many fans are calling the latest chapter, Chapter 7, the best one yet, due to the shocking return of a well-known villain from the original series.
Mahito, an incredibly strong curse, caused massive destruction in Shibuya before being pushed to his limit and defeated by Yuji Itadori. Just as Yuji was about to finish him off, Kenjaku intervened, absorbing Mahito using Suguru Geto’s abilities. It seemed like Mahito was gone for good, but he proved to be remarkably resilient, reappearing both in the story’s climax and its continuation. However, only Tsurugi could actually see him, and the reason for this is surprisingly straightforward.
Mahito Still Remains in a Limbo After His Death in Jujutsu Kaisen
In the manga’s final arc, after Sukuna dies, he encounters Mahito in a strange afterlife. Mahito casually reveals Sukuna arrived there before him, suggesting he was expecting someone. Mahito explains this place is connected to his ability to manipulate souls – it’s a kind of waiting area for them. Even years after his own death, Mahito is still there when Tsurugi appears, in a coma. Because Tsurugi almost died, he briefly touched this spiritual passageway while Mahito continues to wait. Although Mahito doesn’t say it directly, it’s obvious he’s hoping to see Yuji Itadori again.
This chapter confirms Yuji is still alive, though he may have stepped back from being an active sorcerer due to his age. Mahito remains fixated on Yuji because of their clashing beliefs, and seems to want answers from sorcerers before he dies. Although Tsurugi doesn’t mention seeing Mahito, his quick appearance will probably be important later in the story. The plot of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is becoming clearer, as we learn about Yuka Okkotsu’s serious illness and get a glimpse of the tragic past of the Simurians and their connection to sorcerers.
