The start of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 stunned viewers with the incredible power now wielded by Yuta Okkotsu, a second-year student at Jujutsu High. We first learned about Yuta in a prequel movie that showed him joining the school and overcoming a curse. After the fight with Suguru Geto, Satoru Gojo sent Yuta to Africa with Miguel to help him improve his skills. Yuta trained there for almost a year, and he’s become much more powerful as a result. While fans fell in love with him after seeing the prequel, Yuta didn’t appear in the main storyline until after the Shibuya Incident.
The second season ended with a shocking twist: Yuta’s return to Japan and a meeting with the elders. Driven by seeing his friend, Toge Inumaki, injured during Sukuna’s attack, Yuta vowed to kill Yuji Itadori. The start of the third season revealed his plans, which surprised many viewers. Even a brief display of Yuta’s abilities was enough to terrify everyone.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Unveils How Strong Yuta Got in Just a Year

Yuta is an incredibly powerful sorcerer, even among the highest ranks, and is frequently compared to Gojo. While he probably won’t surpass Gojo, many consider him second best. His arrival in Shibuya was deeply unsettling to Yuji and Choso, who he was focusing on. The sheer force of his cursed energy was so intense that Yuji briefly mistook him for Gojo, but quickly realized Yuta was even more frightening.
Yuta also showed he has more cursed energy than Gojo, and easily defeated Yuji, Choso, and Naoya while holding back. He wasn’t even trying his hardest during the fight. His plan was to kill Yuji only to immediately revive him using the Reverse Cursed Technique. Plus, thanks to his unique ability to copy techniques, he has access to an endless number of them.
The anime confirms that Yuta has always been on Yuji and his friends’ side, which is a welcome surprise. His powers will be a major help in balancing the fight against the villains. Throughout the Culling Game and Shinjuku Showdown arcs, Yuta will continue to fight alongside the sorcerers, and his abilities will give them a significant advantage against their powerful enemies.
