Despite being incredibly popular, Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen, featured in Weekly Shonen Jump, has faced some criticism, particularly regarding how it handles character deaths and story endings. Given the manga’s dark tone, some tragic events are expected, even if fans find them upsetting. Throughout the series, several well-liked characters have been killed off. The Culling Game arc is both highly anticipated and the longest in the manga, introducing numerous characters and, unfortunately, many tragedies.
Yuki Tsukumo’s death during the Culling Game Arc is considered one of the most heartbreaking moments in the series. Fans were particularly upset because it felt sudden and she didn’t get a proper conclusion to her story. With the anime currently airing, this scene may actually have a greater emotional impact than it did in the manga.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Might Give Yuki The Spotlight She Deserves
Similar to Yuta Okkotsu, Yuki arrived after the disaster had already occurred. Despite this, she teamed up with the remaining sorcerers to find a way to release Gojo from the Prison Realm. As a powerful, special-grade sorcerer, Yuki possesses an incredibly strong technique called Star Rage. It lets her increase the mass of herself and her summoned spirit, Garuda. But it’s even more powerful than it seems – she can create a black hole with potentially planet-threatening force.
Despite a promising and exciting battle – with Choso helping Yuki maintain the attack – Kenjaku managed to survive and ultimately defeated her. Her death came swiftly, and her final words to Choso were a short, touching moment. However, the story quickly moves past these emotional scenes, prioritizing action and plot progression.
Seeing how quickly Kenjaku was defeated in the final arc makes Yuki’s death feel even more anticlimactic. Hopefully, the anime will add new scenes or extend the fight to give her character a more meaningful ending. The anime’s second season showed how impactful these extra moments can be – the scene of Nanami dancing on the beach while dying deeply moved viewers and emphasized the tragedy of his fate. In contrast, Nanami’s death in the manga happens very abruptly and doesn’t have the same emotional weight.
