Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel Changes Everything We Know About the Original Story

Just a year after the somewhat divisive finale of *Jujutsu Kaisen*, creator Gege Akutami is back with a new series, *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*. The original ending left many fans wanting more, and now, a year later, this sequel offers a surprising continuation of the story. Illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki, the new manga is set 68 years after the events of the Culling Game and follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Though briefly shown as Yuta’s grandchildren in the epilogue, their names weren’t revealed until the start of this sequel.

Fans had long suspected Yuta and Maki got married after the series ended, but it’s only been officially confirmed recently. The story also shows how the sibling characters have grown from children into teenage Jujutsu sorcerers, navigating the tough rules of their clan. They team up to investigate a series of missing children and encounter Maru, also known as Marulu Val Vol Yelvori, an alien working undercover as an inspector alongside the sorcerers. This new manga continuation will only run for about six months, and it’s completely changed how we view the original story.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Changes the Genre of the Story

The story starts with an invasion of Japan by 50,000 Simurians, an alien race who discover a small group of people in Japan share their powers. These people are known as Jujutsu Sorcerers, and they’re born with the ability to see and fight cursed spirits using a unique energy. While the series now includes aliens, making it science fiction, there’s a deeper mystery. The original story didn’t explain why most Jujutsu Sorcerers are born in Japan, but the aliens might hold the key to understanding the origin of the curses and the never-ending cycle they create.

Even after the recent chapters, the true nature of Ryomen Sukuna, the series’ main villain, remains unclear, but some fans believe he may be connected to the aliens introduced in the story. The markings on Sukuna and those on the alien race, the Simurians, are strikingly similar, making a connection seem possible. Furthermore, the alien seen with Maru’s brother in the first chapter bears a resemblance to Master Tengen’s unusual form, suggesting we may learn more about this immortal sorcerer as the story progresses. With only five chapters released so far, the manga is starting to reveal more about Maru’s hidden abilities.
