A year following the conclusion of “Jujutsu Kaisen” in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, its creator Gege Akutami unveiled a sequel series named “Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo”. This time around, Yuji Iwasaki joins as the illustrator. Set 68 years into the future, specifically in the year 2086, humanity faces an invasion by the Simurians, an alien race with jujutsu-like powers. The Jujutsu society has significantly evolved over time, but the dangers of curses and curse users remain hidden. The narrative commences with the tragic demise of Yuta Okkotsu, who succumbed to grief after his wife’s passing, Maki Zenin.
Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, who were first mentioned in the ending, are now teenagers and have become jujutsu sorcerers. They join forces to solve the mystery of missing children. During their investigation, they encounter Maru (a nickname for Marulu Val Vol Yelvori), a secretive Simurian working undercover among the sorcerers as an inspector. The very first chapter gained massive attention after its release, but issues with the translation were soon noticed.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’s English Translation Is Somewhat Confusing
1) A JJK spin-off wouldn’t be complete without the original cast making an appearance.
2) It is unlikely that a Jujutsu Kaisen spin-off would materialize without featuring the original cast members.
3) Without the participation of the original cast, it seems improbable to produce a successful Jujutsu Kaisen spin-off.
4) To ensure a satisfactory Jujutsu Kaisen spin-off, it is essential to include cameos from the original cast.
5) The authenticity and appeal of a Jujutsu Kaisen spin-off would be questionable without the original cast making appearances.
Regarding your second
“The Culling Game, a terrifying event in jujutsu 68 years ago that led to the signing of the treaty.
Thanks to the heroic efforts of individuals like Satoru Gojo and Yuji Itadori, it was resolved.”
1) The horrific Culling Game, which took place 68 years ago in jujutsu, resulted in the signing of a treaty.
2) The resolution of the Culling Game, a terrible event that occurred 68 years ago within jujutsu, was achieved through the bravery and determination of people such as Satoru Gojo and Yuji Itadori.
3) Thanks to heroes like Satoru Gojo and Yuji Itadori, the Culling Game, a shocking event that took place 68 years ago in jujutsu, was brought to an end and led to the signing of a treaty.

In simpler terms, a translator previously associated with JJK (Twitter handle @lightningclare on X) has provided some clarity regarding Chapter 236 of the series, which contained certain points that were initially difficult to understand. For instance, the original chapter suggested that Satoru Gojo and Yuji Itadori were solely responsible for resolving the Culling Game that took place 68 years ago. However, this interpretation seemed to overlook the significant contributions made by Yuta Okkotsu, Maki Zenin, and numerous other sorcerers who played pivotal roles in defeating Kenjaku and Sukuna. While Gojo did engage in a one-on-one battle with Sukuna, Yuji had support from various allies throughout the process.
Revised: Even during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, Sukuna would have been far beyond anyone’s reach to pose a challenge. However, it was thanks to the collective efforts of individuals like Satoru Gojo and Yuji Itadori that the Culling Game was ultimately resolved, indicating that their combined strength played a significant role in the resolution.
As an observer, I’d rephrase it as follows: “This sorcerer, unlike what the VIZ translation might suggest, does not primarily rely on cursed energy for combat. However, it doesn’t mean he is devoid of it entirely; instead, his cursed energy levels are comparable to those seen in early Maki, suggesting a more subtle use or control over his powers.

Inconsistencies arise in the portrayal of Tsurugi’s powers as it was stated earlier that he lacks cursed energy entirely, yet it was also suggested that his output is simply low. However, it’s important to clarify that although Tsurugi does not possess a high amount of cursed energy, he doesn’t have none at all. His Heavenly Restricted body may limit the quantity of cursed energy he has, but it doesn’t prevent him from fighting altogether.
Tsurugi is a sorcerer who, unlike some others, does not inherit Cursed Techniques naturally. However, this doesn’t impede him from utilizing the New Shadow Style effectively. In summary, Tsurugi might have less cursed energy compared to other characters, but he still possesses it and can employ certain techniques proficiently.
Maki’s counterpart shares many common traits with him, and as this counterpart gains more power, those similarities will become increasingly apparent. Currently, he mirrors Maki in many ways, but as he encounters losses, his strength will only grow stronger.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Has a Different Translator than the Original, But the Same Problem
After the previous translator of Jujutsu Kaisen, Stefan Koza, was arrested in 2020 due to child pornography charges, a new translator, John Werry, stepped in. However, his work has sparked quite a bit of debate among fans, as many have found errors and inconsistencies in the translation. The audience’s complaints were largely ignored by VIZ Media, except for making a few corrections to the digital version, particularly the line in Chapter 221 where Gojo says, “No, I’d win.” instead of the initial translation.
Although this is just one instance, numerous uncorrected errors persist throughout the manga series, leaving fans puzzled about the true intentions of certain scenes unless they are animated. Even future volumes continue to face the same issue, leading some fans to initiate a petition requesting Viz to retranslate specific chapters, but to no avail. In the meantime, the popular series Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo will be published weekly in WSJ for the next six months. For now, author Akutami has no plans to extend the manga further, but with an upcoming anime season and a spin-off novel on the horizon, fans can anticipate plenty of exciting developments ahead.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the newest sequel series! Feel free to share them in the comments section below and let’s engage in a discussion together over at our ComicBook Forum!
