Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel Just Made the Best Romance Canon

As a die-hard fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I was eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the manga back in September 2024. However, instead of wrapping everything up neatly, it held back the epilogue until the release of the final volume in December. The climax revealed four different character perspectives, one of which transported us to a future where Panda found himself in the storeroom of the Gojo Clan. To my delight, we even got a sneak peek at Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren, two adorable kids eager to play with our beloved Panda. While fans had already formed theories about Yuta’s romantic life, the epilogue never officially confirmed it, leaving room for speculation. But fear not, my fellow enthusiasts! The latest sequel manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, has finally given us the official confirmation we needed to put our theories to rest.

Gege Akutami pens the story of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, with illustrations by Yuji Iwasaki, which started publication in Weekly Shonen Jump on September 7th, 2025. This series is expected to run for approximately six months before its conclusion. It takes place 68 years after the Culling Game commenced, in the year 2086. An alien race known as Simurian has found out that a small number of Japanese citizens possess powers similar to their own, which they refer to as Jujutsu sorcerers. With over 50,000 Simurians having invaded Japan since this discovery, they pose a threat comparable to Ryomen Sukuna. The narrative then introduces these aliens, and we learn that Yuta’s grandchildren are married – a fact confirmed in the series premiere, as we find out he wed Maki Zenin.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Confirmed Yuta and Maki Were Married

In the manga, the exact time of their wedding isn’t mentioned, but we know they lived for many decades following the Sukuna raid, raising children and grandchildren among them. We encounter their grandchildren, Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, who form part of the main group that includes Maru, a Simurian serving as an inspector with the Jujutsu sorcerers. Unfortunately, Maki passed away around six decades after the Sukuna raid, followed closely by Yuta. It appears that Yuta’s spirit was weakened upon losing his wife and he eventually passed on, passing his ring to his granddaughter, Yuka. Yuta and Maki first crossed paths in their high school days, and their relationship quickly gained popularity among fans after the prequel film.

In the primary narrative, their relationship deepened when Yuta came back from Africa following the resolution of the Shibuya Incident. Fans, despite the subtly implied romantic undertones, weren’t surprised by them ending up together. As for the main story characters at Gojo, they are the sole confirmed couple; their whereabouts regarding the others remain unknown. Since the sequel frequently references characters from the original story, it’s possible that we may discover more about these other individuals during its serialization.
