Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga!
Gege Akutami’s popular series, Jujutsu Kaisen in Weekly Shonen Jump, ended last year following Ryomen Sukuna’s defeat, the notorious King of Curses. Originally serialized over six years, it rapidly emerged as one of the most recognized new-age shonen titles. Although the main narrative wrapped up in 2024, the anime is gearing up for Season 3 to premiere in Winter 2026. However, without an anticipated new season of the anime, fans were taken by surprise when Akutami unexpectedly debuted a sequel entitled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. This spin-off manga is illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki and plans to run for half a year before concluding.
In the same magazine that houses “Jujutsu Kaisen,” the follow-up narrative is being released in installments – Weekly Shonen Jump. This new series has already generated a significant amount of excitement. Set in 2086, the tragic Culling Games are now part of history, but peace remains elusive as curse spirits and users continue to terrorize humanity. Even after 68 years, the world is far from tranquil. The narrative takes an unexpected turn with the introduction of an alien race called Simurians, who have taken refuge on Earth following a massive invasion. Since they possess similar powers, these extraterrestrial beings are smoothly integrating into Jujutsu society. The story commences with the heartbreaking demise of two much-loved characters, and it’s safe to expect more tragic departures in the future.
Yuta and Maki Die in the First Chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
In the epilogue, we’d met Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren who resembled Maki Zenin, sparking speculation among fans. It didn’t take long for them to deduce that a beloved ship in the series, referring to Yuta and Maki, had become official. In fact, it was confirmed through Modulo that they were indeed married, with both of them passing away – Maki first due to old age, and later, Yuta succumbed to grief after losing Maki. Everyone was surprised by Maki’s untimely death, as she was believed to precede Yuta in death.
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuta and Yuka, often referred to as the power couple, lived out long, satisfying lives until Yuta’s passing when Yuka was ten. Despite the premature deaths common in their profession, they managed to grow old together – a rare and cherished outcome for them. As for what happened to others, it remains uncertain, as the timeline suggests that many may have passed away or grown too old before the main narrative unfolded, approximately 62 years after the Culling Game.
