Fans are just hours away from the return of Yuji Itadori and the other sorcerers from Jujutsu Kaisen after the intense events of the Shibuya Incident Arc. The new third season will introduce the Culling Game, a tournament where Yuji will face off against various sorcerers, and someone from his past will try to hold him accountable for Sukuna’s actions. To build excitement for the upcoming MAPPA-animated season, the opening theme has been released, and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen!
If you haven’t heard, the opening theme for the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen is called “Aizo” by the band King Gnu. This isn’t the first time King Gnu has contributed music to the anime; they also created “You Are My Special” for the second season and “Sakayume” for the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, which helped introduce the character Yuta Okkotsu. You can listen to the new opening song and watch its unique animation below – many fans are saying it’s unlike anything they’ve ever seen in anime.
What Is The Culling Game?
At the end of season two, things were bleak for Yuji Itadori after the devastating events of the Shibuya Incident. Although Mahito was defeated, Yuji was reeling from the loss of Nobara and Nanami, and Gojo was trapped. Now, Suguru Geto has awakened a huge number of cursed energy users for a deadly competition called the Culling Game, hoping to gain immense power by absorbing the victor. To make matters worse, Yuji has been sentenced to death by Jujutsu Tech due to the destruction caused by Sukuna, leaving him in an impossible situation.
The third season of Jujutsu Kaisen will primarily cover the Culling Game arc. After that, the show will likely continue with at least one more season to adapt the rest of the manga. Without giving away any major plot points, be prepared for some incredibly intense battles and shocking losses as the story progresses.
Even though the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga has finished, the story continues with its sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. Set several years after the first series ended, Modulo introduces some surprising new elements, most notably the addition of aliens as new enemies. While it hasn’t been officially announced yet, given how popular Jujutsu Kaisen is, it’s likely Modulo will eventually be adapted into an anime.
