Gege Akutami, the creator of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” is back in the pages of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump with a fresh follow-up series. The original “Jujutsu Kaisen” concluded last December after six years of publication in the magazine, but don’t think that means we’ve heard the last of this captivating story. Some intriguing extra chapters have been released recently, shedding light on the characters and their post-ending fates. The biggest surprise yet for fans of the franchise? A sequel series has now started, inviting us once more into the world of Jujutsu.
Previously hinted by Shonen Jump, the mastermind behind Gege Akutami’s works was rumored to collaborate with Yuji Iwasaki from Cipher Academy on an exciting new series called Modulo. However, there was more to unveil than initially anticipated. Now that this series has officially been launched in English, it turns out that Modulo is, in fact, a sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen! Entitled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, this upcoming series delves into the lives of Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren and some fresh characters.
How to Read Jujutsu Kaisen’s New Sequel
The “Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo” has officially launched in Japan, and enthusiasts in the U.S. can access the initial installment of this fresh series free of charge through Shueisha’s MangaPlus service or Viz Media’s digital Shonen Jump library. Spanning over 50 pages, the first chapter is set years after the original storyline. The new series presents Yuka and Tsurugi, the offspring of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin who have passed away prior to the sequel’s events. In the Kyoto region, these grandchildren are now engaged in their roles as Jujutsu Sorcerers.
It appears that Yuka and Tsurugi exhibit some similarities with their elders. Notably, Tsurugi relies on a Cursed Tool to fight, much like his grandmother did, since he does not possess any Cursed Techniques himself. On the other hand, Yuka was chosen by Yuta to safeguard Rika’s ring in his later years. Following Yuta’s demise, however, the clan opted to transfer Rika’s ring to Tsurugi, leading to a new form of competition between the two young sorcerers as they embark on their next crucial and unforeseen mission in the sequel.
Why Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel Is Important
The upcoming sequel for Jujutsu Kaisen promises to address some concerns fans had about the original series’ abrupt ending, particularly the final battle against Sukuna and the subsequent epilogue chapters which didn’t fully resolve those lingering doubts. This new installment offers an opportunity to delve deeper into the world of this franchise, with ambitions to explore its universe even further.
The main attraction of this fresh series lies in the introduction of a novel character called Maru, hailing from an extraterrestrial species that boasts powers comparable to those wielded by Jujutsu Sorcerers. He’s arrived in Japan with the intention of assessing the compatibility between humans and these new alien combatants. However, things are getting messier as this series is set to expand exponentially with the arrival of this surprising sequel, which promises unexpected twists and turns.
