Jujutsu Kaisen Star Slams One Popular Ship: “It’s Purely Platonic”

With so many fans worldwide, it’s not surprising that people are pairing up characters from Jujutsu Kaisen. The series is known for its well-developed character relationships, and fans enjoy seeing how these characters interact. This often leads to fans hoping for romantic connections, even amidst all the fighting. While the pairing of Yuta and Maki became official, not all popular ships were meant to be. Ultimately, Jujutsu Kaisen is a battle-focused series, and romance isn’t a major part of the story.

Fans often ‘ship’ characters – pairing them together – just for fun, and it doesn’t always mean they want to see a romantic relationship develop. While Yuji and Nobara are a popular pairing, many fans see them more like siblings or very close friends. Because they’re key members of the main group, people naturally speculate about a romance. However, one of the actors who plays a character in Jujutsu Kaisen has publicly stated that their relationship is purely platonic, effectively dismissing the popular ship.

Jujutsu Kaisen Star Doesn’t Believe There’s Any Romantic Undertones in Yuji and Nobara’s Relationship

At this year’s Anime Pasadena convention, voice actor Adam McArthur, who plays Yuji Itadori in English, discussed the relationship between his character and Nobara. As reported by ScreenRant, McArthur believes their connection is strictly platonic. He praised the show Jujutsu Kaisen for prioritizing action and immediate challenges over romantic storylines, saying there’s simply no time for romance when they’re focused on the task at hand.

He explained that friendships often don’t get the appreciation they deserve, and people tend to expect too much from them. However, he highlighted the unique connection between Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi, forged through shared hardship and experiences, calling it something truly remarkable.

Yuji and Nobara have a playfully chaotic relationship. They’re constantly teasing each other, and Nobara often ends up physically correcting Yuji, but they always have each other’s backs when things get tough. They can be silly or serious, adapting to whatever’s happening, which is a contrast to Megumi, who generally maintains a stoic and detached demeanor.

The strong connection between the three main characters is a key part of what makes their interactions so compelling, and it effectively rules out any romantic feelings between them. The series prioritizes deep, intricate friendships – like those between Yuji and Megumi, and Gojo and Geto. Because of this focus, the close relationship between the protagonist and the female member of the trio often serves as a welcome relief from the story’s heavier moments, and most viewers don’t interpret it as anything more than a strong friendship.
