Jujutsu Kaisen Studio Is Facing the Same Problem as Before & It’s Not Good For Season 3

Fans are eagerly awaiting *Jujutsu Kaisen* Season 3, which is scheduled to arrive in January 2026. The season promises to be the most action-packed yet, and the recently released trailer has generated a lot of excitement. Those familiar with the manga already know the trailer highlights some major story events, and they’re expected to be phenomenal. The series will explore the devastating consequences of the Shibuya Incident, a turning point in the *Jujutsu Kaisen* world, with villains Kenjaku and Sukuna at the center of it all. We’ll see how Gojo’s students cope with new dangers and attempt to save their teacher after the brutal events of the Shibuya Arc. Kenjaku’s plans are progressing rapidly, and he shows no signs of stopping.

The next season of the series will show more of Yuta Okkotsu’s importance to the story and introduce several new characters. Before diving into the Culling Game arc, the show will cover the Itadori’s Extermination and Perfect Preparation arcs, which focus on the challenges faced by Gojo’s students. The recently released trailer emphasizes moments from these earlier arcs instead of previewing the Culling Game, which is the second-to-last major story arc leading up to the final battle against Ryomen Sukuna. Despite the excitement for the new season, the animation studio, MAPPA, is currently facing similar production difficulties as they did with the previous season.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 May Be Facing the Same Production Issues as Season 2

The trailer was fantastic, showcasing key moments from the Itadori Extermination and Perfect Preparation arcs without giving away too much of the story. As expected from MAPPA, the action sequences are incredibly exciting and well-animated. However, when compared to trailers from earlier seasons, the difference in quality is noticeable.

Many scenes move slowly, prioritizing conversations over quick cuts or action. The most noticeable issue was a scene featuring Yuki, Gojo’s students, and Choso – it clearly looked like unfinished animation included in the trailer due to time limitations.

The visible numbers within the animation frames clearly show this is an incomplete version. Though it might not seem significant, it suggests the animators faced deadlines they couldn’t meet, likely due to time pressure or excessive workloads. Despite it being two years since Season 2 aired, production problems persist at this major Japanese animation studio. With the release date only a few months away, it’s highly unlikely these issues will be fixed.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Has to Cover More Chapters Than the Previous Seasons

Watching the production of Season 3, it’s clear they’re up against a bigger challenge than before – they have more source material to cover. Season 1 felt nicely paced, adapting 68 chapters and even including the popular Juju Scrolls. Season 2, though, really sped things up, squeezing 73 chapters into fewer episodes. They managed to handle the complicated Shibuya arc really well, streamlining it so viewers wouldn’t get lost, and I’m curious to see how they’ll tackle this even larger amount of content in Season 3.

If Season 3 tries to cover the entire Culling Game Arc, including the Extermination and Perfect Preparation parts, it would mean fitting 85 chapters of the manga into a single season. While the exact number of episodes isn’t known yet, it will probably be around 24-26, like previous seasons. This puts a lot more stress on the animation team, making production problems more likely than before.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Had One of the Worst Production Meltdowns in the Industry

The anime industry in Japan is famous for its demanding schedules and lack of staff, leading to overworked animators and poor work-life balance. This problem has worsened as anime’s popularity has grown worldwide. While many studios struggle with this, MAPPA, a leading studio in Japan, often receives the most attention for it.

The production of the Shibuya Incident Arc was plagued by problems, leading to widespread discussion about animators being overworked, particularly on social media. Episodes were frequently finished very close to their release dates – some preview images were even delayed by a few hours. Fans noticed these issues and primarily expressed their frustration with the studio for the immense pressure placed on its animators.

Despite some hurdles, *Jujutsu Kaisen* Season 2 was a standout anime in 2025, earning multiple awards from Crunchyroll. We have high expectations for the next season, even though creating it will be demanding for the animation team. While Season 3 might face production difficulties, MAPPA has a dedicated group of animators who will deliver a season fans will enjoy.
