Jujutsu Kaisen to End Its Sequel Without Resolving Its Biggest Fight

The sequel series to Jujutsu Kaisen is nearing its end, and it appears the major conflict won’t be resolved as fans expected. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo began last year as a follow-up to the popular manga, offering a glimpse into the world of Jujutsu Kaisen eighty years after the original story’s conclusion.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo series mainly featured two significant battles. While the beginning of the sequel introduced new characters with some brief skirmishes, the story ultimately revolved around the fights between Dabura and Mahoraga, and Marulu and Tsurugi. Though the battle between Maru and Tsurugi concluded, the latest chapter suggests that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo won’t be delivering a satisfying, visual conclusion to the fight between Dabura and Mahoraga.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Surprisingly Cut Dabura vs. Mahoraga Short

In the last chapter we saw of the battle between Dabura and Mahoraga in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo (Chapter 21), Mahoraga was adapting to fight alongside Dabura, even as Dabura started his Domain Expansion. It looked like Dabura might win, but the story then shifted focus to Yuji Itadori’s return and his approach to Maru after the fight with Tsurugi ended.

Chapter 23 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo picks up where Yuji and Maru left off, discussing how to use Maru’s Cursed Technique to protect humanity from curses. Unexpectedly, the battle between Dabura and Mahoraga is cut short. Maru intervenes and teleports Dabura away from Earth, a desperate move to save Yuka, who is suffering from a fatal brain tumor. Defeating Mahoraga would have ultimately killed her, so while the fight ends, it’s not the resolution fans were hoping for.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is Just More of the Same

The conclusion of this arc might feel abrupt, especially considering it leads directly into the next part of the story. However, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is mirroring a pattern seen in the original manga. Gege Akutami’s original series often struggled with satisfying conclusions to major battles and crafting a meaningful ending. While it’s logical for Maru to stop the fight to save Yuka, it highlights how this whole conflict ultimately felt like an unnecessary diversion.

The conflict with the aliens felt like it should have been a major focus of this sequel, serving as a defining element for the entire Jujutsu Kaisen series. However, the story is rushing to a conclusion and feels somewhat disorganized, highlighting that Mahoraga was mainly used to stall for time during crucial scenes. This approach doesn’t quite work, and the ending will likely feel unsatisfying when compared to other impactful moments in the franchise.
