Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga! Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, a short sequel to Gege Akutami’s popular Jujutsu Kaisen, is nearing its conclusion as the major conflicts begin. Originally planned to run for about six months in Weekly Shonen Jump and span no more than three volumes, the first volume’s release date and cover art have now been announced, heightening excitement for the ending. The story centers on Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki, as they train to become Jujutsu sorcerers in high school. It’s set 68 years after the Culling Game, and follows the arrival of over 50,000 Simurians—an alien race with powers similar to those of Jujutsu sorcerers—who seek refuge in Japan.
I watched as the siblings encountered Maru – though everyone called him Marulu – a Simurian who was working alongside the Jujutsu sorcerers as an inspector. Despite their different positions, they quickly became friends, all hoping for peace between their people. Sadly, things fell apart during talks with the sorcerer leaders when Maru’s twin brother, Cross, was killed. This pushed Dabura, the Simurian leader, to respond with force. As the fighting escalated, I began to understand just how formidable Maru really was.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Shows the First Glimpse of Maru’s Powers

With a fierce battle raging, Yuka steps forward to fight Dabura, a tremendously powerful opponent. Meanwhile, Tsurugi makes a difficult choice to battle Maru, hoping to protect his sister, even though Maru’s abilities are overwhelming. Maru is a brilliant innovator who traveled between planets searching for a new home for his people.
Maru possesses incredible strength, first demonstrated when he lost control and activated his third eye early in the story. Now, in Chapter 16, he’s determined to fight Tsurugi, as he has a lot to protect. The chapter also reveals that Maru and Cross utilize opposing techniques: Chaos and Harmony. When Maru opens his third eye, his power dramatically increases, potentially creating a significant challenge for Tsurugi.
Watching Jujutsu Kaisen, I’ve noticed a really interesting dynamic with twins, particularly identical ones – they’re often seen as almost one being. We saw this play out with Maki and Mai Zenin. Maki was born with a body that severely limited her cursed energy, while Mai had a useful, though not very strong, technique. It was only after Mai’s death that Maki was truly able to unlock her full potential. Now, with Maru, Modulo hasn’t fully explained how his abilities function, and I’m curious if his situation shares any similarities with the Zenin sisters’ unique bond.
