Julia Roberts Shares Rare Makeup-Free Selfie

Julia Roberts is a pretty woman—with and without red carpet glam.

The Academy Award-winning actress recently shared a fresh-faced selfie on Instagram on December 16th. She showed off her natural beauty with minimal makeup, sporting her signature wavy hair and a comfortable gray sweatshirt.

Rather than focus on her appearance, Julia brought attention to the book she was holding, dedicating a post to fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski with a photo and the caption, “My friend @alexilubomirski has created this stunning new book, Natura Sacra.”

At 58, she continues to favor a simple approach to fashion and beauty, but has previously said her overall style is meant to be ‘chic and effortless’.

The Notting Hill actress often chooses simple, effortless styles. She recently shared that even her most famous outfit – the one she wore to the 1990 Golden Globes – was put together at the last minute.

In a January 2024 interview with British Vogue, Julia described this outfit as a personal favorite. She explained that she styled her own hair, her girlfriend did her makeup, and she purchased the suit from Armani in Beverly Hills. They altered the suit for a perfect fit with the help of an in-store tailor in the men’s department.

Julia, who shares 21-year-old twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, and an 18-year-old son Henry, with her husband Danny Moder, didn’t realize at the time that this outfit would become one of her most iconic red carpet moments.

She admitted she didn’t realize her outfit would get so much attention. She simply thought she looked great when she put it together.

Julia applies the same ‘less is more’ approach to beauty and cosmetic procedures, preferring a natural look.

In a 2010 interview with Elle, she expressed sadness about how much pressure there is in our society to conform to unrealistic beauty standards. She explained that women often rush into cosmetic procedures without considering how they’ll look as they age. She wants to age naturally, believing that her expressions – happiness, anger, confusion – are important for her children to read, and that a face should reflect a life lived, not just a pursuit of youth.

Four years after initially mentioning it, Julia told You magazine, “I’ve taken a big risk by not getting a face-lift, especially considering Hollywood standards.”

He added, “I think I hit it too hard. They don’t look like that.”

While Drake noted that people go under the knife “all the time,” he isn’t one of them.

Sometimes, I actually like how my face is changing. I feel like I’m gaining character, even if I’m not as conventionally pretty as I used to be, and I think that’s a good exchange.

The Oscar winner revealed whether or not she’s gotten plastic surgery.

In an August 2023 interview with Allure, she discussed the natural changes in her appearance, saying, ‘My face is changing, and I embrace that. According to a screenshot from People magazine, she also shared a tip: if you use fillers, like her doctor previously did, to subtly reshape the bridge of your nose, it can create a smoother, taller appearance in just seven minutes.

Lana mentioned a non-surgical nose job, which involves using injectable fillers to reshape the nose. The Cleveland Clinic explains it’s a cosmetic procedure, but unlike traditional rhinoplasty, the effects are temporary, typically lasting up to six months.

The supermodel, famous from the 1990s, filed a lawsuit in 2021 against Zeltiq Aesthetics. She claimed that a fat-reduction procedure she had in 2015 and 2016 caused permanent damage. The case was settled in 2022.

She’d rather be known for who she is, not for trying to hide or change it.

I’ve always really admired what this artist said back in 2011 to Harper’s Bazaar. She made such a powerful point – she believes that encouraging people to feel bad about themselves and then ‘fix’ it with surgery is way more damaging than someone expressing themselves creatively through things like tattoos or piercings. It really resonated with me, and I think she’s absolutely right.
