Julianne Hough Reveals Real Reason Ryan Seacrest Romance Didn't Work

As a dedicated follower of Julianne Hough‘s journey, her life experiences resonate deeply with me. Her story is a testament to the complexities and nuances that relationships can hold, particularly when it comes to finding one’s identity and purpose outside of them.

Julianne Hough isn’t idolizing her past relationships.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it like this: Reflecting on my past romance with Ryan Seacrest from 2010 to 2013, I, Julianne Hough, have shared that one factor contributing to our split was my desire to establish a career independently, carving out a path for myself beyond the confines of our relationship.

She shared on Dax Shepard’s podcast, “Armchair Expert”, on Aug. 12 that it was then when she chose to part ways. There were quite a few Brentwood moms and producers in her circle who questioned her decision, saying something like, “What are you doing?” To which she responded, “What do you mean by that?” They seemed surprised, implying, “Your life is all set up for you.”

But as the 36-year-old explained, she didn’t feel like she’d built that life.

She expressed, “Indeed, I felt driven to make it, so I said to myself. Although it might not be entirely my own achievement, I yearned for the satisfaction of having crafted it myself.”

Additionally, Julianne feared that outsiders might perceive her as exploiting the host of American Idol for personal advantage.

She expressed a fear, saying, “‘People might assume I’m with him because of this particular reason.’ To avoid such misconceptions, she began acting more modestly.

However, the dancer expressed that Ryan had encountered such dynamics in past relationships. Consequently, Julianne felt compelled to “excessively adjust” and admitted that she was “ready to adapt to whatever role someone required of me to make them content.”

Reflecting on most of her romantic experiences, including her marriage to ice hockey player Brooks Laich from 2017 to 2020, Julianne questions whether she has ever genuinely fallen in love with someone.

“The sensation of being cherished is something I adore,” she explained. “To ensure I receive such affection, I wish to embody what it requires. Consequently, since I am overflowing with love that has been given to me, naturally I have feelings for you. I care for all.”

She pondered, “I’ve felt deeply for everyone I’ve dated, but is that love? Let me put it this way: I don’t want to dissect it too much, as each of them has been genuinely good-hearted.”

The Burlesque performer has also spoken openly about her feelings following her separation from Ryan, highlighting the drastic change in her life trajectory.

In the year 2013, I had recently ended a relationship that garnered much attention. During a live chat on Instagram with Valeria Lipovetsky in 2020, she explained how her lifestyle changed significantly. She would travel on private aircraft and yachts, reside in luxurious homes, and experience a level of opulence far removed from where she was raised.

Following the end of their relationship, Julianne now wonders if she may have overstepped slightly by diving headfirst into novel adventures.

“Reflecting on last year, it was my year of exploration and liberation – a time when I embraced the unknown and pushed boundaries. However, I’ve come to understand that balance is key, as I found myself swinging from one extreme to another. Now, I’m searching for a sweet spot where I can discover contentment without having to live such an intensely dynamic life.”

Speaking of Ryan, he’s been going through a change as he parted ways with Aubrey Paige following three years together. Interestingly, the 49-year-old has expressed joy earlier that he and Julianne have managed to maintain a cordial relationship even after their separation.

During her 2022 interview on On-Air With Ryan Seacrest, Ryan clarified that some people struggle to grasp the idea of maintaining friendship post-breakup.

“I share the same sentiments [as Julianne], since our friendship has endured for so long, it feels natural and comfortable to me.”
