Ever since the conclusion of “Justice League Dark” back in 2020, I, as a passionate cinephile, have been eagerly anticipating the return of this extraordinary team. Characters like Zatanna, John Constantine, Deadman, Dr. Fate, and even Wonder Woman have captivated audiences with their unique abilities to combat mystical and supernatural perils.
However, fans are not just hoping for a reunion; they’re also excited about potential new members joining the ranks. After all, battling dark magic threats as an eclectic band of heroes is what the Justice League Dark does best, and there are numerous DC characters who could lend a valuable hand in this endeavor.
Let’s discuss ten potential members for the upcoming roster of Justice League Dark. Some of these characters have graced the team before (in some cases only briefly), but they certainly brought a unique touch that we’d love to see again. On the other hand, there are also new faces that we believe would be fantastic additions. Whether or not we’ll actually get another version of this team remains to be seen, but isn’t it fun to imagine possibilities?
1) Animal Man
In simpler terms, Animal Man, who was once a team member but is too valuable to overlook, might consider rejoining. If Swamp Thing represents the Green, then Animal Man would be a fitting choice for the Red. With a history of supernatural encounters shared with Constantine and Swamp Thing, he’d blend well. Although not always popular, his return could add an intriguing twist. Lately, Animal Man has appeared more frequently in DC comics, making it an opportune moment to develop his character further as a team member. Plus, his ability to call upon the animal kingdom could prove useful against many magical threats, making him a valuable asset for the team.
2) Swamp Thing (Levi)
Regarding Swamp Thing, though Levi Kamei is still relatively new to the role, I firmly believe he’d be an excellent addition to our team. So far, DC hasn’t given him much spotlight despite his Swamp Thing mantle, and I think placing him on a team would give him the recognition and opportunity to truly excel. He seems like a well-crafted character, waiting for his moment in the limelight. Additionally, pairing him with John Constantine could lead to an engaging dynamic that adds a fresh twist to their interactions.
Though many of us dearly miss Alec, it’s becoming evident that it’s high time we warmly welcome Levi into our midst. Change can sometimes be necessary, and positioning him as the starting member in the Justice League Dark could provide a fresh perspective that is exciting to witness.
3) The Sandman (Wesley Dodds)
In simpler terms, Dodds, also known as the original Sandman, was primarily recognized in the Justice Society era. However, more recent encounters with him were through “Knight Terrors” and his recent mini-series. Despite not being the first character many fans associate with Sandman, introducing him to Justice League Dark could offer an opportunity for a deeper exploration of his character. Dodds is an intriguing figure who specializes in creating sleeping gas and tackles early noir crimes, making him an appealing character to follow.
In the story “Knight Terrors,” he came back from the dead only to be put into a deep slumber once more. It wouldn’t be too challenging to resurrect him again. Given Dodds’ perpetual sense of mystery, his semi-living state makes him an ideal character to traverse the border between our world and the realm of the deceased. Perhaps even more so than Deadman.
4) Zauriel
The character Zauriel, often referred to as the “Hawkman imposter,” could be an excellent addition to a revamped Justice League Dark. This divine entity shares some characteristics with Hawkman, justifying the comparison, making him an ideal fit for the supernatural team. With his extensive knowledge of magic and religion, coupled with intriguing powers, Zauriel would bring valuable assets to the group.
Regarding team interactions, chats involving him, Deadman, and Constantine offer an intriguing mix due to their diverse beliefs. Incorporate Zauriel into the group, and you’ve got the makings of a conversation that could be unforgettable. The overall dynamic among this team would be crucial because having Zauriel on board adds a unique twist, but it has the potential to generate captivating narratives.
5) The Bride
As a devoted film aficionado, I can’t help but envision The Bride, a captivating character from the “Creature Commandos” series, joining the ranks of the Justice League Dark. Although Frankenstein has graced their presence before, it would undeniably be a thrill to see The Bride stepping into his shoes. Her unique status as a figure straddling the world of the living and the dead makes her an ideal fit for this extraordinary team.
Moreover, the thought of pairing her with the ever-iconic Wonder Woman sends shivers down my spine. These two powerhouses, each representing strong female characters in comic books, coming together would be a dream come true for fans like me. It’s an enticing prospect that brings excitement to the comic book community.
6) G.I. Robot
Discussing the harmonious blend with the Creature Commandos, we absolutely need G.I. Robot on board. His exceptional talent for tracking down adversaries, albeit quite specialized, would mesh perfectly within the Justice League Dark. Furthermore, given the recent reintroduction of this character through the Creature Commandos series to a vast number of new readers, it’s exciting to envision him embarking on another comic book adventure.
Additionally, his versatility, even without magical abilities, makes him an attractive asset. Another option is to cast him as the team’s medic, reminiscent of X-Men’s Forge. This would offer a unique and entertaining way to introduce this cherished robot into the superhero team.
7) The Spectre
Would incorporating the embodiment of God’s wrath into the Justice League Dark team seem excessively powerful? Absolutely, but it would also be an incredibly exciting scenario. By taking on major conflicts and uncovering supernatural origins of threats, he could serve as both a formidable member and potentially a leader for the group. Whether Jim Corrigan or Crispus takes on this role remains uncertain, but we’d welcome either character. In essence, the addition of the Spectre to the team would not only be intriguing but also seem fitting, given that we find it surprising that such an integration hasn’t been explored more extensively in the past.
8) Doctor Mid-Nite
As a seasoned movie critic, I’ve always held a soft spot for classic characters, and Doctor Mid-Nite is one of them. With his successor stepping down from the current JSA roster, it’s high time we revisit the original. The addition of a scientifically-inclined member to the team would be an intriguing twist, especially when dealing with the supernatural threats that often crop up.
Charles, who has been somewhat overshadowed by other members in recent outings, could truly shine given this opportunity. He’s more than earned it, being a beloved character from the comic book world. If executed correctly, this move could breathe new life into his character and propel him to the forefront of the team.
The real draw, though, lies in the potential for blending science with magic – a task that this largely mystical team has yet to tackle. It would offer a fresh perspective, grounding their adventures in reality while exploring the fascinating intersection between mankind and the supernatural. A captivating storyline indeed!
9) Flatline
As a cinephile with a soft spot for DC comics, I can’t help but feel intrigued by the latest addition to the DC universe, Flatline. This eccentric character possesses an extraordinary powerset that could prove invaluable to the Justice League Dark. Once the sidekick of Lord Death-Man and somewhat admired by Damian Wayne, Nika’s unique ability to absorb powers from the deceased makes her a formidable force on the team. With her impressive martial arts prowess, she’d make an exceptional hero if only she were willing to give it a shot!
Although she may face challenges in gaining the rest of the team’s trust due to her past, having Robin endorse her could certainly tip the scales in her favor. With Robin’s assistance, she’s demonstrated a strong desire to do good, and together they would make an excellent addition to the Justice League Dark. After all, this team is made up of unconventional heroes with varying levels of reputation.
10) Robin (Damian Wayne)
As a die-hard fan here, I’ve got an idea that could really take things up a notch. Imagine Damian joining our superhero crew! With his mystical bent in the Bat-family, it would be epic if we made him the full-on magic guy. Think about it – he could further his studies with Constantine, learning new spells and incantations.
And let’s not forget about that distinctive gray suit of his; it fits perfectly with the Justice League Dark missions. I mean, who wouldn’t want Damian to keep rocking that costume? It’s just too cool!
Instead of always being associated with his father’s character, having Robin team up with other characters could help him discover his unique identity as a hero. This development would be beneficial to the storyline. If Flatline were part of the team, they might even have an enjoyable romantic storyline. However, it’s important that Robin learns magic from John and not dating advice to avoid any potential complications.
