Although the novel It Ends With Us came out in August 2024, the upcoming movie adaptation is still generating news due to a legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, who is both an actor and the director. This week, the judge officially dismissed Baldoni’s countersuit on Halloween, and his legal team is now addressing the public discussion that followed.
The legal issues began when Blake Lively filed a complaint against Wayfarer Studios, which then led filmmaker Justin Baldoni to sue for defamation, seeking $400 million in damages. While Baldoni’s initial case was dismissed in June with the opportunity to revise it, he failed to do so, resulting in the judge officially ending his countersuit. However, Baldoni still intends to pursue the matter, as his attorney, Bryan Freedman, recently stated to People magazine:
The media has repeatedly misrepresented the facts of this case. Even routine updates have been twisted and inaccurately reported. We want to clarify: no deadlines were missed. Our clients decided not to change their initial complaint because they wanted to keep their options open for an appeal.
Despite reports that the legal case was over, recent developments suggest it’s still ongoing. This means the movie It Ends With Us (available on Netflix) will likely remain in the news for some time. We now await to see if Baldoni’s legal team will appeal the judge’s ruling.
Despite hopes that the legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni might be wrapping up, it seems that’s not happening. Both actors are likely spending a lot on legal costs, but neither appears willing to concede. Here’s what Freedman had to say about the ongoing situation:
We’re currently looking into the allegations made by Ms. Lively. We’re dedicated to finding the truth and will use all legal and factual means to do so. We anticipate presenting our case in court.
Although Blake Lively’s side recently won a legal battle around Halloween, statements from Taylor Baldoni’s lawyer suggest the issue isn’t fully resolved. It remains to be seen if they will appeal the court’s decision, or if another lawsuit against Lively will be filed. Based on these comments, it appears the legal conflict is ongoing.
Blake Lively has several films scheduled for release starting in 2026, while Justin Baldoni doesn’t currently have any upcoming movie or television projects announced.
