Kaguya-Sama and Oshi no Ko Creator Returns With Two New Series

Known for creating critically acclaimed shows like “Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War” and “Oshi no Ko,” Aka Akasaka is now exploring various genres. Less than a year after the polarizing conclusion of “Oshi no Ko,” the author has returned with a horror romance titled “Maerchen Crown,” published in Shueisha’s “Weekly Young Jump” magazine. The series features illustrations by Azychika, who also worked on “Record of Ragnarok.” This new work reinterprets the classic fairy tale, Rapunzel, with a dark twist set in a fantasy world. In this story, a young girl named Rapunzel lives secluded in a tower deep within the forest, a place where no one dares to venture due to the presence of a witch.

Despite the widespread fear of the witch’s powers, Rapunzel trusts her guardian and remains confined within the tower, yearning for a glimpse of the world outside. However, the arrival of a brave villager sparks a change in events. Curiosity leads him into the tower, where he meets Rapunzel. She seizes this opportunity to escape, but discovers that the witch’s warnings about the perilous outside world were indeed true.

“Maerchen Crown” is an engaging weekly series with only 17 chapters published thus far. You can read it for free on the Manga Plus app. Though Akasaka’s current romance series is still running, he plans to release two new series in August – “RBR – Crazy Raccoon Battle Royale” and “Karubi Momareru”.

What We Know About RBR – Crazy Raccoon Battle Royale So Far

Starting on August 20th, 2025, this new manga named “The Reclusive Gamer” was published in the Comic HOWL magazine. Created by Andou (illustrator) and Hiromono (writer), it’s a joint project between Akasaka and game developer Crazy Raccoon. The story revolves around an individual who isolates himself after his older brother’s fatal car accident, taking solace in video games. However, things change drastically when he gets an unexpected email from the renowned E-Sports Team Crazy Raccoon, inviting him to participate in a Battle Royale. Unfortunately, at this time, it can only be read in Japanese as there’s no confirmed release date for an English version.

What We Know About Karubi Momareru So Far

Introducing alongside the launch of “RBR – Crazy Raccoon Battle Royale” in the same magazine, “Karubi Momareru” is a joint effort between Crazy Raccoon, with Shiromanta, the mastermind behind “My Senpai is Annoying,” collaborating with Akasaka on this project. This full-color manga is inspired by V-Tuber Akami Karubi, who is associated with Team Crazy Raccoon. The series is labeled as a “super-high calorie comedy” to reflect the grandiose nature of Karubi’s online personality. As of now, there’s no confirmed English release date for “Karubi Momareru.

The two series follow a weekly release schedule, with new episodes coming out every Wednesday. The Japanese versions can be found on Kodansha’s Pocket Shonen Magazine website. Since their initial release, both series have garnered a significant number of views and generated hundreds of comments, even though they are currently only accessible domestically.
