The popular manga series “Kaiju No. 8” has concluded after five years of publication on Shueisha’s Jump+ app, leaving fans surprised by its unexpected twist in the final chapter – a surviving marriage mentioned in the epilogue. Throughout the first half of this year, Kafka Hibino and the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force have been deeply engaged in their final battle against Kaiju No. 9. With that climactic battle now over, as depicted in the second last chapter, it’s time for the manga to bring everything to a close with an epilogue.
I’ve just finished reading chapter 129 of Kaiju No. 8, and it’s brought some major changes for Kafka and the others! Four months have passed since the battle against Kaiju no. 9, and upon waking from his coma, Kafka learns he’s back to being human. The story unfolds with a surprise wedding that has left fans guessing who the lucky couple might be. It seems like everyone in the story is moving on, but I can’t wait to see how Kafka reacts and adapts to his new life.
Kaiju No. 8 Has a Surprise Marriage in Final Chapter
In the aftermath of my clash with Kaiju No. 9, I find myself recuperating in a hospital bed, months having passed since then. The devastation, though technically minimal, is unparalleled in recent times, marking the Great Cataclysm as an event of unprecedented disaster. As for Kaiju No. 8, my true identity remains hidden from the public eye, shielded by the JAKDF amidst a growing tide of conspiracies. To my surprise, I discover that I retain the power to transform, a power I believed had been lost during our final encounter.
After rejoining his comrades in the Third Division, he learns some significant news. In addition to several of them paying him visits at the hospital during that time, it’s disclosed that “Gukki and Rei Tsukino” had actually tied the knot while he was unconscious. This revelation is quite shocking because these names don’t appear to correspond with any characters from the series, but rather seem to be popular figures in this universe. Consequently, this development feels rather unexpected, unfortunately echoing the general feel of the finale as a whole.
Kaiju No. 8’s Ending Feels Underbaked
Apart from the sudden wedding, Kaiju No. 8 had more unexpected twists in store. It’s disclosed later that Ichikawa, Iharu, Haruichi, and Aoi rose to become Platoon Commanders, heralding a new era of prosperity for the JAKDF. This development was followed by a fourfold increase in applicants after Kaiju No. 9. Kikoru climbed up the ranks to become Vice-Captain of the First Division, Hasegawa advanced to HQ Staff Officer, and even Kafka managed to secure a promotion within the force.
In summary, Kafka joins the Third Division and assumes command of a new Kaiju Analysis Squad, balancing his role as Kaiju No. 8 with his secret identity. There’s no significant progression in his relationship with Mina or other storylines, leaving the narrative seemingly unresolved and open-ended. The series continues its focus on monster battles, but the conclusion seems abrupt and unsatisfying, leading fans to likely move on from it.
