2025 is set to unveil “New Year, New Kaiju No. 8” instead of the usual “New Year, New Me.” The excitement surrounding its comeback has escalated even more with the unveiling of fresh artwork showcasing the audience’s top three characters: Kafka Hibino, Reno Ichikawa, and Kikoru Shinomiya.
In an alternate universe filled with colossal Kaijus, Japan has established a defense force to safeguard its people. This is the premise of the popular manga “Kaiju No. 8,” written by Naoya Matsumoto for Shonen Jump+. As Season 2 nears, our main characters, including Kafka, are working towards advancement in their roles. In a traditional New Year’s celebration, the primary trio of Kaiju No. 8 pause to make wishes for the new year.
Kaiju No. 8‘s Hyakkei Artwork Series Returns
2025 promises a wealth of excitement for fans of Kaiju No. 8! Alongside the Season 1 recap film featuring an exclusive OVA, and the upcoming release of Season 2 this Summer, Production I.G has revealed through their official X (previously Twitter) account that the cherished Hyakkei artwork series is making a comeback. From 2023 to 2024, fans have been occasionally gifted with new original illustrations showcasing characters from the series.
This year, the series we’ve been eagerly anticipating is making its comeback, and fans have already been given a sneak peek! The latest piece showcases Kafka, Kikoru, and Reno in prayer at a chilly shrine blanketed with snow. A fresh illustration will be unveiled every 8th of the month. Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Releases This Summer
This year is proving fantastic for fans of “Kaiju No. 8”. At the 2024 Jump Festa event, we got our first glimpse of Season 2 in its trailer, and fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival. Besides the sneak peek at the new season, they also announced that it will be released this coming July, although specific details like the exact date and total episodes remain undisclosed for now.
On March 28, 2025, the recap movie for Season 1 will be screened in Japanese cinemas. This special feature-length film includes a fresh Original Video Animation (OVA) titled “Hoshina’s Day Off.” The OVA follows Reno, who, after years of training, has forgotten how to relax during his free time.
