Kamen Rider to Livestream New Series in the U.S. for First Time Ever (But There’s a Catch)

The long-running Japanese action series, Kamen Rider, is set to introduce a significant milestone in its history. For the very first time, episodes of the upcoming Kamen Rider Zeztz will be live-streamed in the United States. Despite being one of Toei’s most prominent Tokusatsu franchises still in production, Kamen Rider has not yet achieved the same level of popularity in the US as its counterpart, Super Sentai. Although Super Sentai later inspired the Power Rangers, the English-licensed releases of Kamen Rider have not fared as well.

In terms of complicating things further, it’s not just about being able to catch Kamen Rider shows, but now it’s escalated. Shout Factory has officially declared they will be hosting special live streaming premieres for the upcoming major Kamen Rider series, namely Kamen Rider Zeztz. This extraordinary event kicks off on Saturday, September 6th, with new episodes of Kamen Rider Zeztz being streamed simultaneously with their debut in Japan. This is a significant leap forward for the global accessibility of the franchise as a whole. You can watch the announcement trailer for this live streaming below.

Kamen Rider Zeztz Announces U.S. Streaming Premiere

According to Shout Factory’s latest updates, the much-anticipated series “Kamen Rider Zeztz” will debut on Saturday, September 6th at 7:30PM PT across their official YouTube and TokuSHOUTsu channels for viewers in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Fresh episodes from the show will be made available weekly, with replay options offered on Sundays at 9AM PT and Fridays at 5PM PT thereafter. However, it’s important to note that this release is not a full on-demand streaming option as one might expect.

Shout Factory shares that the new episodes of the Kamen Rider series will air six times during each broadcast. Previous episodes of the show will also be aired before the debut of the new episodes every week. Additionally, there are planned mini-marathons scheduled for future weeks. This means that even if you miss the initial live streaming premieres, you’ll have multiple opportunities to watch the series. Furthermore, since it’s airing on YouTube, access will be completely free. This significant move is expected to enhance the global recognition of the Kamen Rider franchise.

For the first time ever, the upcoming series ‘Kamen Rider Zetz’ will be broadcast globally, with each episode available in Japanese audio and English subtitles. This is the seventh installment in the Kamen Rider franchise during the Reiwa era, marking its 36th overall appearance as a masked hero. Originating from Japan in the ’70s, it’s gained more recognition among dedicated fans in the United States, but hasn’t yet reached broader success outside of these groups who closely follow its latest releases.

Earlier efforts to introduce the franchise to American viewers didn’t quite take off. In the 90s, a show called Masked Rider didn’t gain much traction, and even had a special episode that linked up with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. In the 2000s, an adaptation of Kamen Rider Ryuki, titled Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight, also fell short of audience expectations. However, the original version of this franchise is now poised for its greatest opportunity at global success yet.
